1. NY hospital cited for drug errors, missed diagnoses
New York state regulators have cited Stony Brook University Medical for 17 code violations, with problems ranging from procedural concerns such as credentialing process flaws to drug dosing errors and a missed diagnosis leading to the death of a patient. In the case of the deceased patient, who died from head injuries related to a traffic accident, the took 20 hours to provide the patient with proper care, regulators said. When his condition was discovered it was too late to save him. The hospital was also cited for failing to investigate adverse reactions in seven of nine cases reviewed by the state. Stony Brook was previously cited for 19 violations related to pediatric surgery, including an incident where a patient was given a drug dose 27 times the appropriate level.

actually, the very worst offender at stony brook, ray dattwyler, has moved on to gary wormser's gulag at NYMC.
Jorge Benach, who is a competent scientist but who also earned the ire of lyme patients by blasting them in the media for reasons he has since been proved in error, and who has never apologized or been held accountable for his disgusting actions, continues to study biowarfare agents at stony brook.
benjamin luft and patricia coyle at stony brook are decent human beings. they were caught in a bad situation.

Dattwyler moved!!! These days it is hard to decide which major medical institution is the worst on lyme. There are so many candidates.
Not sure how you arrived at the judgement that Luft and Coyle were decent human beings. Coyle was a co-author on the previous edition of the IDSA guidelines for lyme. No decent human being would have done that.

Dr. Coyle had the best test for finding LD in the spinal fluid...when other tests, including those at Columbia, did not. Unfortunately the powers to be (just opinion here) sat on her and she no longer performs her brilliant test.
Probably the fools at the State Med Board who are anti-chronic Lyme. Coyle's test proved just the opposite.
Sometime I can close my eyes and feel I am back in Nazi Germany. It is hard to believe the people in power do not consider the truth to be the apex of thought.
Damn fools. Don't blame Dr. Coyle...a good friend who has a terrible case (12+ years) had her test done years ago, and tried to get the same test fairly recently...no go.
Where is my baseball bat when I need it?

And the guys who run the tick research lab are pretty decent folk. The head guy did a tick study in collaboration with the Michigan Lyme Disease Association a few years ago. I heard him speak a couple of times.
The Stonybrook Blood labs are fairly decent too, aren't they?
But how could the powers that be let a University Hospital go so wrong??? Just horrible! Ruins the name and the chances for funding of everything good as well.

It's a tie between yale and new york medical college. The good thing about yale is there are some scientists there such as steven malawista who have kept an open mind and stayed away from the aldf/idsa crap. sure, it may have hurt their careers in lyme research, but they retained some degree of self respect in the process.
you don't see that at NYMC...they are a bunch of hitlers there.
still, it's hard to ignore the fact that schoen, shapiro, fish, bockenstedt, etc. are all employed by yale.
