I watched Brad Paisley's acceptance speech last night on a country music award show and he said something about thanking everyone for buying his records about "alcoholics drinking themselves to death" and "stupid bugs" (the Ticks song).
I was really disappointed by it for some reason. It almost sounded like he was demeaning those who suffer from alcoholism and tick-borne diseases. It was like he couldn't believe the public was silly enough to give him awards and money for singing about such things. Am I making any sense?
Then this morning the disc jockey on my local country station talked about the speech and said it was the best speech of the night on the show and he thought it was so funny.
I guess I just don't get it.

I just read some messages over on the Brad Paisley site and everyone there just thinks the speech was sweet, humble, etc. They said they'd buy anything he sings about because they just love him so much!!! Guess you have to be a Lyme sufferer or alcoholic to be offended by it.

well if we could only get some famous people who would acknowledge this illness and reckon with the devastation it leaves in it's path .. I mean more than Writers with LD (Amy Tan, Meg Cabot, Rebecca Wells, Jordan Fisher Smith, E. Jean Carol, Jennifer Weis); FSU football player, Wyatt Sexton; actor, Mary McDonnell..
there has got to be an easier way.. how come so many people recognize this but not enough IMPORTANT people will promote it .. I think it has something to do with it being connected to TICKS.. if you remove that part. and try to put another spin on it.. people might open there eyes.. there is some stigma against it being tied to ticks I mean really no one ever doubted that syphilis was a serious illness and Lyme Disease is a second cousin to syphilis.. think about this one

Amen Acorn, It's a cute song but it wasn't used for lyme activism. I heard his speech and he was very nice and not demeaning at all.
I think we should be grateful that some attention was given to searching for ticks! cheezwhiz
Paisley told his fans, "I put a song out about two people drinking themselves to death, you buy it. I put a love song out, you buy that. I put a song out about the stupid bugs, you buy that. I really appreciate everything you guys have given me. God bless you."

PS... I went back to the site and went through the "motions" of signing up for the discussion board.
There was no asking for credit cards or anything. I don't think those folks are paying to discuss Brad!

Amen, Byron. Sorry Magic and Meg, but the speech still doesn't sit right with me. But I can let it go - I've had to let go of much bigger things than this!!

I forgot that I tapped it. So I saw his speech. (He beat out my honey Toby, but thats ok since Brad is from WV)....He did say a song about stupid ticks.
They are stupid ticks. They just transmit a very serious virus.
He gave ticks no credit at all. I told my husband if he was as serious about checking me for ticks like he is his 7 year old daughter I might not have Lyme disease. But oh well....
I will never compete with the love of his life.. our daughter...
Brad is good and being nice in the song. Every woman needs a gorgeous man that can sing country music to check her for "stupid ticks"
I am available if he wants to check me....

TuTu, I couldn't post there either. I signed up and got a username and password and then accessed the forum to post and was told I was not a paid subscriber. @-$24.95!
