As you may know, my 18 YO daughter has had Lyme since she was 7. Recently, my 11 year old son required a bone scan due to abnormal signals on an MRI that was done to work up som neurological issues he has been having.
Low and behold...the technician could not find his right kidney!! Only the left one was visable with the dye passing through it. He is hysterical...body image issues...and hard to concole.
And I am worried and feeling overwhelmed...Fear of his future with only 1 kidney, especially since he loves contact sports, which may be a no-no...Anger at my OB and his pediatricians for never picking this up ...I had THREE ultrasounds when I was pregnant with him..and they were level 4's because I was 41.
He has to see a nephrologist now along with the neurologist and also now a hemotologist and orthopedist because of the abnormal MRI. I am stressed to the max.
All the doctor running for my daughter has strained my family life and finances...I am self employed and the LLMD appointments eat a day from the schedule each time...now more doctor/referral/lab/test/go back and pick up films in rush hour traffic running.
Of course, I will manage...I always do...just steeling myself and heartbroken about how hard he is taking the news that he may have only 1 kidney.
UGH...and I used to take good health for granted..

I'm so sorry to hear this, elle. What a heartbreak. I know many are able to live with one kidney, but it's never a good thing to have to deal with, that's for sure.
Please keep us posted on how he is doing and what the doctors tell you.

Dear Elle,
What a shocking suprise! Wow.
I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers for you and your children.
I haven't worked since Katrina. I was self employed too.
The good Lord has always seen that we've had a roof over our heads
Even though it was a garage roof for some time.
He has never let us go hungry.
I used to worry constantly about finances.
The Lord has provided for us.
Hang in there.
Please keep us posted on your son.
Hugs,
Geneal

Thank you guys so much for your warm support. I know that, if he does turn out to have only 1 kidney, that he can still live a full, long life...and that is so reassuring. He is a wreck, but today, less so than yesterday. Poor little guy.
On a brighter note, my daughter was able to come to dinner with us tonight in a reataurant...something she has not had the energy to do in weeks...so I do feel very blessed about that part.
I will keep you guys posted on the kidney front...keep hopong it was just a weird lab artifact...but we'll know for sure after the nehprologist checks him out...
