Here's a theory-- I've seen some talk of the possibility that one of the factors in the "rising green tide" may have been biological warfare experiments that took place on a certain island off Massachusetts, where lyme disease and the tick vector were being investigated for possible biological warfare use. Maybe the experiment produced a weapon that was actually used, that is developed from some super-pernicious strain of lyme. I'm not claiming any hard evidence here-- it's just that such questions as have been asked above do beg mention of this... DaveS

That is interesting since the state of Massatuchusetts public health department has been reporting an incredible rise in CONFIRMED Lyme disease cases. This is something that needs a closer look for sure.

Thanks for the reply, I am reluctant to even lable this disease as vector-borne anymore. Although the bacteria is best transfered through blood, I think there is an infective "stage" were the cysts can make it out in bodily fluids. Just an opinion, because the symptoms of LYME seem to find many definitions these days. microw

I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned mycoplasmas on this thread. The US Army holds a patent for the gene sequence of a certain mycoplasma...the implication being that this is a man made organism designed and built by the US Army. It is extremely contagious. Something like 80% of people in the military (and their families) are infected with it. Symptoms are mild, so most don't know they have it, and to be honest it would almost be a waste of time to try to get rid of it as you would just be reinfected. It has also been implicated as a contributing factor in Gulf War Syndrome.
