Has anyone with chronic Lyme successfully receieved Social Security benefits? I realize that these may take a very long time to receive but are well-worth it I am sure.
I am considering applying but would like more information from those who have been through the process. I have been out of work for 7 months now and believe that I have met at least 20 quarters of SS deductions.
Thanks!

Thank you so much for this thorough reply! I truly appreciate it.
As far as weight is concerned I am on the low end of "normal". Would I actually be better off losing 2-3 lbs so that I was technically underweight? I know it sounds crazy but we do what we can, right?
Has anyone tried companies that aid in being issued SS benefits such as Allsup? http://www.allsup.com/

I was just approved for Chronic Lyme Disease. I had a wonderful attorney. It is most definitely possible to be approved for that.

Thank you to everyone for the heartfelt replies, encouragement, and great information. This means a great deal to me as it may help me begin the process of getting back on my feet financially and ensure that I can continue Drs appts/treatment.

Lyme DOES qualify as a disability. I believe the SSDI board is more interested with what the LD has actually caused (i.e. POTS, cardiac issues, neurological issues documented by your MD). I applied for SSDI (I have LD) and was approved the first time around. It took 10 months from the time I applied. It is VERY dependent on what your LLMD says on the forms he is required to fill out. I had no problem receiving benefits. My case has to be reviewed every 3 years. Hopefully by then I'll be working again! The amount of money I receive monthly from SSDI is 1/5 of what my actual income was when I was employed (and healthy). My daughter, who is 8 years old and also has LD and Babesia, also receives SSDI. Again, she was also approved the first time we applied. I believe they process children's applications faster than adults. Her benefits began 3 months after we applied.

Yep, Betty, you're right. Darn my Lymie brain.
Yes, you can get SSDI if you are too fat. My husband harps on it all the time...How ridiculous it is that his mom got turned down (who has lymphoma) and their obese neighbor down the street has been receiving SSDI for years...because she is morbidly obese.

I was just wondering what types of bad things you have heard about them? So far I have heard good reviews but want to investigate any red flags. My neighbor was approved when she used them after having been denied when she filed on her own.
Thanks!

lisa,
my knowledge on allsup comes directly from the DISINISSUES website i've directed you too.
it's NOTHING like this board but they send out posts daily; moderator rewrites questions asked, and check out their FILES.
there may be things there about allsup; not sure.
you might be able to do a SEARCH of medical using allsup insurance in searching! good luck.

There's some helpful info, including the new neuro tests and samples of letters from doctors, in the Help with Disability post.
