Dr. Whittaker developed the Q-RIBb (Quantitative Rapid Identification of Borrelia burgdorferi) test.

I read that she was a lyme disease victim from childhood. Not sure why they don't list lyme as a cause of death.
http://www.oakridgefuneralcare.com/stories/2008/Dec08/123108/obit_Whitaker.html

I saw some of her presentations on DVD at various lyme conferences and I know she was active in the lyme community.

Just thought we should awknowledge her passing.

I have her on my list. This is not cool.

Guess I can cross another off the list. I keep getting a lot of death reports lately. We'll all miss her. [Frown]

This is a truly sad day for everyone who knew her and all of the Lyme community. This news breaks my heart.

Dr. Whittaker was a very intelligent and dear lady... a big advocate for us all.

Even when she was unable to get up and around due to her own illness, she took time to help others.

She had many friends who will miss her.

Prayers will go out to her family and friends.

May she now rest in true peace.

This is very sad news.

The Lyme community has surely lost a true advocate.

My thoughts go out to her whole family and close friends, who I am sure will miss her very much.

I pray that she is in peace now and forever.

Wow, what a shame. She will be missed by the Lyme community.

Rest in peace, Jo Anne.

Dec 5th .. so I'm NOT crazy. Heard about this back then, I believe.

Terry,

Thanks for letting us know.

I had a few very long phone conversations with her years ago. She was extremely helpful and very generous with her time and her intellect. She was a great teacher to me at a time when I had no doctor whatsoever.

Sad news, indeed.

I just went to the link. What a beautiful woman. What energy within that smile.

I hadn't heard. I looked here to see if a notice was sent to the forum but couldn't find one.

Great idea to send a note Betty! I just did and once submitted, they apparently print it out and send it to whoever you specify. I specified family and friends.

Oh, that is terrible news!

I only hope that all her works and her efforts will not be in vain.

I pray that all her research amd works will be used to diagnose and heal many of the people afflicted with this disease.
