HI everyone,

Please contact your federal representative, and let him/her know you are opposed to HR 801, the "Fair Copyright in Research Works Act." This bill would REVERSE a prior bill that makes any science research that receives federal funding freely available to the public.

In other words, when the NIH funds Lyme research, the journal article that reports the research must be made freely available within a year of publication in a medical journal. It goes onto PubMed Central, where anyone can read it. One example of this was the UC-Davis mouse study, which is now available in full text. Under this new bill, you would have had to pay to read it, even though your tax dollars helped pay for the research.

I know it is a little confusing, but the short of it is: Representatives should vote NO on HR 801 and allow patients to read the most up-to-date medical research that our taxes pay for, so we can make sound medical choices.
