we, hubby and i learned a lot from it, and it was NOT just about his book; very indepth things, and actual brain showing us various things about parkinson's etc.
we were impressed! even hubby agreed and he doesn't talk about his parkinsons!

Yes, this was a wonderful program. Michael J. Fox is a very special guy and the interviews and division of segments worked perfectly.
The other guest, a woman named Rogers, was enlightening, extremely down to earth and genuine while facing a very hard challenge of dystonia.

BTW, Dr. Oz mentioned at the end that both the woman with dystonia and Parkinson's such as in Michael's case are suspected to have been caused by toxins.
Seeing the brain and hearing about the "oil" that ran dry certainly has my ears perk up and will set my eyes on what can prevent that whether fish oil, antioxidants, better liver support, etc.

I thought Michael was very inspiring!
Very interesting about what happens in the brain of people with Parkinsons. Question is, why does it happen? Could it be that that part of the brain was attacked by a bacterial infection?

that is quite likely. MJF did have lyme disease a few years before the parkinson's hit. From all accounts, he got the typical treatment and he seemed to have done okay with that.
Still, as some of us here know and from numerous accounts in medical literature, there is a connection between lyme and other neurological disorders such as this and ALS, "MS" etc.
Some such patients with all of those labels have been treated for lyme with long-term treatement and many have recovered - at least to decent degrees.
However, other toxins can also contribute, or cause, Parkinson's. So, while lyme (or some other infection) may have caused this, there may have been some other kind of toxic exposure or shock - or, maybe, the failure of the liver or kidneys to be able to metabolize and eliminate overall toxins.
From the "what can we learn" message - treat infections fully and do not overwhelm the body with toxins - AND support the liver and kidneys (and brain) as best we can with good self-care and some of the supplements that have been shown to make a difference.
Of course, it's very complex and multi-faceted. No one has all the answers but if we take the very best care of ourselves as we can that is the best most of us can do right now as for prevention.
As for understanding and accepting others with a variety of conditions, what MJF - and Rogers - said about how people looked at them really struck a cord. Many looked at them with fear for themselves.
Getting past that, seeing eye to eye, heart to heart - no matter what - is what all people need, regardless of what is going on and whether it's visible or not (as with many lyme patients). It's what we need and I hope I'll get better about my interactions when I see someone with struggles that frighten me.
I also hope to find the right words to get back friends who stay away from me because they are so horrified at the severity of my neurol. stuff and fatigue. It's as if I'm from another planet but, mostly, they are sad and scared for me and I just don't know how to fix that other than just keep saying "it's just part of the deal" and minimize it.

Made me think of "Lorenzo's Oil." Isn't that why they used it on their son? Wasn't it a brain disorder?
