Happy Birthday Topaz! If you can't eat the cake because of possible yeastie beasties, then I will! (I can eat all sorts of things now that my appendix is gone!)

YUMMIE!

Happy Birthday, Topaz!

Aw, thank you so much you guys!

I had a wonderful birthday.

Had dinner cooked for me, and even allowed myself a piece of cake.

BF and the kids gave me some really nice gifts. Warm gloves, the new Stephen King book, flowers, a warm cozy blanket... My fave gift is a wood burning kit to use on my gourd projects...can't wait to use it! Also some acrylic paints for the gourds too.

Thanks again, everyone!

So, in my defense, before you see the following pictures, I am a new gourder.

I am a wanna be fancy gourder.

I started growing them two years ago and bought some books on gourd crafts. Wow are some of those creations amazing!

I'm now drying this year's crop, and the previous year's crop are the ones I'm working with now. They take quite a while to dry.

Also, keep in mind that this is my first ever attempt. I didn't have all the right equipment and was just kind of winging it with what I had.

Here they are growing. Which by the way was incredibly fun as they are FAST growers and get huge.

 -

Here is how they look when dry and ready to work with.

 -

They get very moldy and need to be soaked, scraped, sanded, and the insides need to be removed.

And here is the final product. Please don't laugh. It's very simple and not very spectacular. It's a birdhouse.

 -

Now that I've got my wood burning kit, more paints, sanding tools, and proper tools to cut and work with, I'm quite stoked to get creating. [Smile]
