I have been off work, now on personal leave for nearly 6 months 4 of those with the lyme diagnosis...

every day I worry about my job, will I ever get back, will they fire me, how would I cope, perhaps I could do part time, do I feel as bad as I think I feel, theres no way I could cope right now or perhaps I could??..

if my LTD is denied I may have to try and go back....many many questions..

I just wondered how it played out for others, how long were you off and on what grounds ie medical leave, personal leave, LTD etc etc.....

I haven't worked for a couple of years, but It wasn't just lyme. I have a daughter that gets
into alot of trouble, and I took custody of her
two boys when they were babies.

They are older now and I could go back to work but the lyme pain won't let me now.

I do dog sitting in my home to bring in money and the dogs don't ask much.

I don't understand how people don't have to work. I thought LLMD's didn't take medical cards? Anybody?

Abigail.....i dont understand your question (lyme brain)..

do you mean you dont understand why people dont work, as in Lyme is not a reason to be off work?....

or how can people not work to afford LLMD bills?? as most dont take medicaid/medicare??....

I meant how long were people off sick from their job??....as sometimes you just HAVE to be for a while....

thats what i thought you may have meant....i dont know how people do it without a job or benefits to cover your wage...

but sometimes you just can't work because of this and i guess some peoples circumstances are better than others and some people put everything in and lose everything......

thats the basis of my question, because if I lost my job, yes i could get another in theory but physcially not right now so it would leave me with nothing.......

just wondered how long it took others to get back to and maintain some form of employment..

I haven't worked in 3 and 1/2 years due to lyme. Been treating it for almost 2 years.

I am fortunate that hubby has a good job and insurance.

16 yrs .. Interstitial Cystitis is what precipitated the inability to work....later found out I had Lyme as the underlying factor.

There is hope for you!!! I'm sure of it!!!

I left work exactly 7 years ago. It was to be for maternity leave, but I got bitten on my pregnant abdomen a week before the baby was born.

My baby is almost 7 now and is doing well, though he tested positive by urine PCR at 10 months old.

Post-pregnancy/sleep deprivation/tick bite = one sick chick.

I've not been able to work since.

I started having strange symptoms when my younger daughter was born in 1984. Went to docs. Knew something was wrong. But, got no help.

Still able to work full time, take care of house and yard...etc.

things did not get so bad I was stopped in my tracks until 2001.

Even then I thought if I had a power chair, a vehicle to transport my power chair and could lie down on a couch to teach I could keep going.

(Even though it took me several years to figure out the difference between a power chair and scooter and what kind of power chair I needed)

Could not get it in my brain how bad I was as brain was not working well either.

A clue was when I was home sick and the VP asked me for my phone number while talking to him on the phone and I was not able to give it to him..but still not ready to accept how low functioning I was.

So, I guess if you can figure out adjustments to balance work and your health you just might be able to continue to work.

Perhaps just finding a way to get through each day for now.

Then cross that bridge when you come to it if you see you need to go to plan B.
