This afternoon I turned into a Be-autch, big time. I didn't even like me. Children went back to school, so I have been having mostly quiet during the day again until 2:45.
from 2:45 on, the tension begins....It's like a noise overload, and I can feel it building. Once I lost it over someone being in my space, breathing down my neck, I stayed a B**ch and only I can call myself that and get away with it.
I could not get past my issues to save my soul.
If there is ONE thing that helps you with overload and rage I would appreciate the share...PLEASE.

- Rest. Get adrenal support on board. Music of Mozart more than any other composer can help shift composure and mood. Change the "script" - see in your mind how you would rather have the situation play out.
Rest. Get some help. Be sure blood sugar is stable. Drink water.
Recognize this as a medical situation from brain swelling and hyperacusis. Magnesium and OmegaBrite can help that part of it.

I do take omega brite and magnesium, maybe I need to increase the quanity.
Usually when I have a noise overload the next day I am full of symptoms. and I am.

I dont know what to do for sensory overload except to take some quiet time. Thats not always possible with kids. Luckily mine is older so i can take 15 mins without worrying about the house burning down. But sometimes thats not enough. Cut yourself some slack..youre doing the best you can under the circumstances. This illness is hard..and raising kids makes it very hard. Just be as good to yourself as you can. Enjoy that quiet time during the day! Rest as much as you can. Hugs!

I got up this morning and even the water running in the fish tank was too loud.
I am usually very patient with my children and can control myself....I am the house that all the neighbor kids come to....not yesterday.

- For that fish tank, put the motor on a solid rubber or hard wood base. A silicone hot pad will do the trick - if the bottom of the motor does not have air slats. If so, they need to be exposed. Usually, these are on the sides of the motor.
It still needs to be exposed to air so as not to get too hot, but motor noise can be reduced to a degree by it having a sound insulating base. Just don't wrap it up totally or it could catch on fire.
Be sure the motor does not directly touch the glass or any surface that will vibrate. If it is inside the tank, anything you put in there needs to be non-toxic, of course.
As for the water sound itself as it runs, put a rock or some tank ornament in its path to divert the hit - that changes the frequency and may be easier on your ears. -

Keebler it's a 55 gallon tank. I added more water to the tank....helped some and staying out of the room.
Thanks for the links...I was reading on the natural sleep topic. Very interesting considering I have had insomnia for several months now.
I didn't link liver and adrenals to my issues I will do some follow up reading Thank you so much.

I so know about being that house where everybody comes! I always said that id rather have a yard full of kids than have mine go anywhere. And since the only one left at home is a 10yo boy...that means other boys! They get LOUD. Manys the time my DH would come in the door and id beat a hasty retreat to a quiet part of the house. I also have beautiful indoor fountains that i never turn on anymore. Im going to look into the suggestions others have given.

- I have NEVER been able to tolerate indoor fountains - the motor noise is just nearly impossible to manage.
If you have water sitting in unused foundations, be sure to rinse out in case they are harboring mold.
I used to house-sit to get a few days away from a noisy apartment. But, often, the houses had indoor foundations. I tried unplugging for a few days but mold would grow. Rearranging rocks helps some but that motor noise / vibration always made me nauseated and dizzy, no matter how many adjustments I tried. -

I just started reading your link to Natural Sleep and it says no one under 25 should take Melatonin.
Is that right? I've never heard that before!
My 14 year old takes it, 3mg every night and says it's the only way she can get to sleep before 2am.
I give it to her because I don't want to give her a sleeping drug. But I don't want to give her something jsut for adults either. I wonder why kids can't take it?
Hmmm, what to do...

That reference was from ONE author. The explanation may be in the larger body of work by that author. Usually, anything I post has a link to the full work. Or search the author's name.
Then, a cross search to see what other experts have to say about it. I used to get all excited with one definitive statement from one author but now, while I do consider that, I like to read more - or at least know WHY the author said that and look at where he got his sources and if others also agree with him.
In my exhaustion, most of the time, all I can do is include statements that may be important but I can't supply all the follow-up. And, sometimes, it may be years later when I understand the whys and the wherefores involved.
It's something to consider but if it works for her, be sure to read from others who discuss melatonin for youth.
As for getting to sleep before 2 am (and I"m VERY guilty of this as I like the late night talk shows for company) . . . but getting light out of the eyes by 9 or 10 pm is so important.
One note of interest, for years with repeated trials, I could not tolerate melatonin.
But, recently, with my late night TV addiction, I know I have to do something differently. I tried melatonin again, a different brand from my ND and it's working for me. It is not causing depression as in the past.
But I also recently started taking an adrenal supplement in the daytime and am very pleased with that (Adaptocrine by Apex). Funny thing about that, too. It has Panax Ginseng which, in the past would wire me. However, in THIS formula, my guess is that the other things balance it out (especially the Holy Basil - which made me too sleepy by itself). So much has to do with the right formula.
If you are concerned with melatonin for your daughter, other things to consider:
Yoga at night to soft music & just the light from a soft night night
A warm bath
a light snack - a fatty nut is good such as a couple Brazil nuts.
Milky Oat Seed glycerine tincture
Scullcap tincture (it is no good in a capsule)
Holy Basil capsules

Keebler have you tried Lemon Bioflavonoid or know of someone who has, did it help?
what is your opinion on pink noise cd...do you think it would help someone with lyme disease?

Still a little rough around the edges, but doin I am at least in control again. The noise for some reason is really bothering me, sounds like everyone is talking through megaphones.
I catch myself out in public, closing one ear to drown out the noise. Thanks for asking lymetoo. I am going to be ok.

watch out, i increased my magnesium a few days ago and got unbelievable diarrhea until i stopped it (the mag).
i plan to increase it again but more slowly this time.

i've had this. unbelievable rage. once i had to just walk away from my husband, i was shaking so bad...
when i'm alone i turn off the tv, turn on classical or spa music, do a facial, and sit and read.
and if it's really bad, i grab a coke. can't help it....but when i'm like that i loose it and figure "wth" and just go with it.
