I was on my way to work yesterday and got a phone call that someone near and dear to my heart was in the hospital. It is my son's "mimi" as he calls her.
Her sisters went to wake her up in the morning and she was unresponsive and foaming at the mouth. She was on vacation at the beach. First time she had been out of the house in a very long time other than doctors appts.
They got her to the hospital to learn she was septic with a 103 temp and her BP was in the toilet. 60/30.
Her breathing became very labored and they had to intubate. This was really a last resort as she has COPD and it is now going to be very difficult to get her off the vent.
Work let me leave and I drove to the shore to visit her. Her vital signs have stabilized and her temp isn't as high...100.8.
They still don't know what is going on or what caused the infection. The ID doc at the hospital came in and said they were testing her for all sorts of things.
They don't understand how she went from being "fine" the day before....out shopping and went to dinner and was up and "fine" just hours before during the night.
Seizures have been ruled out along with some other things.
I did find out they are testing her for lyme, and the ID doc was suspicious of babesia. I have no idea where they will be sending testing for that.
I've written about my son's grandmother before...and she is not my MIL...and that I thought she should be tested for lyme.
Anyway...we are really just taking things one day at a time at this point. No one really knows what is going on.
For all of you who pray, I ask for you to keep her in your prayers.

Praying for Mimi's recovery.
May God give the Medical team all the guidance and knowledge they need to help Mimi get well.
Also praying for comfort for you, your son and Mimi's family.

I'm sorry you're going through this added pain.
Praying with you and others that this one precious to you and your son would quickly heal and feel the Lord's peace as her healing comes.
Peace and blessings to her loved ones, too.
hugs

She is doing well today! Off the vent and I actually talked to her on the phone on my way home from work. After we got all the "mushy" stuff over with...I yelled at her! Well...not really yell, but she certainly scared the crap out of all of us! And I let her know it.
I was kinda upset too that no one even told me she was in there until 3 days after admission! Her hubby told me he didn't tell me b/c he knew I wasn't feeling up to par and didn't want me to do what I did...which was drive 2 1/2 hours to the shore and then drive back! Lol. Oh well...I went anyway and was glad I did.
I am hoping that this was the final straw and she quits smoking. She is young! Only 54.
She is getting moved to a telemetry unit and they are still trying to figure out what happened. No one really knows for sure but different doctors have speculated on a few different things.
All tests are coming back good, which is a good sign but it isn't giving us many answers. She did develop a pneumonia which was shown on a repeat X-ray but that wasn't there on the previous one done in the ER.
I just want to say....
THANK YOU!!!!
To everyone for your prayers! It is GREATLY appreciated.
I gotta tell ya...I really thought this was it. I honestly thought she wasn't gonna make it. I am so grateful that I was wrong.
