Friend's son had a bulls-eye rash. She asked me to come over and look at it and tell her what I thought...I said Lyme...100% sure.

I tell him to get 400mg doxy for at least six weeks, but to ask for eight.

The doc gives him 400mg doxy for three weeks, but offers a refill.

He refills it, but the doc only allows 200mg a day now b/c is worried about liver problems (BS).

I tell him to continue with the 400mg a day b/c 200 is useless.

Find out he only did the three wks on 400 and three weeks on 200...what are the chances this is enough to kick out the Lyme...opinions please.

Our clinic is setting people up for freakin failure...I could just spit!

It is really hard to say -- I think it depends a lot on how long between the bite and the first dose of meds. Also depends on the strain of lyme and if coinfections are an issue.

Personally I think it is a good sign that the person got the bullseye -- it means their immune system recognized the infection in my opinion.

If I was a betting person I would probably say the odds are about 50/50 the person will have no long lasting effects and got enough meds.

thats more than a lot get...be greatful...keep an eye on him and get back for tx if anything happens...and lets just pray someday we will all get appropriate tx
