I watched this most enlightening documentary on Netflix and thought that you might like to see it. You can also go to the website www.2012timeforachange.com to learn more.

I liked the idea in Japan of setting up neighborhood cooperatives where hours, not yen, are the currency and cooperation not competition is the norm. I took lots of notes and want to write my own essay on sustainability and planning for a new order.

The irony of all of this is that people like my sons and my husband are on a terrible treadmill, trying to hold us together. My illness saps our energy and resources and managing a family is always challenging.

So how do you find time to institute change? How do you even find time to read about it, to make informed choices? I certainly did not think about such things when I was working and raising kids. But I did find time to be a parks commissioner and to be on a board of planners to establish ways to maintain green open space.

I think it (change) can be done, albeit little by little. I also think it MUST be done if we are to survive and thrive on earth. Those little spirochetes occupy far more of the earth than we do as do insects et al. For a fascinating look at complex societies based on cooperation read some of the articles and books by E.O. Wilson.

Sometimes I feel that I get so caught up in trying to heal myself that I forget that our planet is sick and also needs healing. Maybe my illness is a way to get my attention so that I will write about it and help things to change on a more global scale.

Change is good and is essential. But people fight it. No one dares to leave his/her comfort zone. I like to think I embrace change, but I do avoid it at times. It is tough to do much of anything much of the time, let alone try something new.

But try, I shall. Gluten free is new to me and seems to be working. My kids got me a juicer for my birthday and I'll have to learn how to do that, too. If I really get ambitious I will try to grow some tomatoes and cucumbers this summer. Somehow and with a major miracle I will figure out how to create and operate a website!

What have you changed lately? Is it working? What plans do you have for future changes? What changes in the past have had a positive impact on your life?

I liked the idea presented that thinking positively and optimistically is healthy and necessary for change and growth. I liked the idea that spirituality and a close connection with nature is absolutely necessary for our survival.

What do you think????

DOCTOR: "I don't think you are sick."
PATIENT: "We are all entitled to our opinions. I don't think you are a doctor."
