Hi all. I could really use some kind words right now. I know I haven't posted in a while but life just got in the way.
I recently had a baby and I don't know if it is just hormonal or my lyme making a comeback but I am just an emotional mess today.
My son is also in treatment for lyme and is making slow but steady progress which is good.
Well, I was watching TV this morning and they showed a 6 year old girl who was gonna be in the national spelling bee and I just lost it.
You see....my son was very bright. Reading and doing math all on his own in preschool. His teachers were amazed and he excelled and was placed in the gifted program.
He is now in 6th grade and struggling. His IQ has also dropped over 30 points and they are going to pull him from the gifted program. He is very distraught over this.
He is having a very difficult time keeping up in school due to "lyme brain".
I'm feeling very guilty about all of this. Like I haven't done enough. Maybe if I realized it was lyme sooner, we wouldn't be in this situation.
I was watching the news segment on that girl and all I could think was....that's how my boy used to be. Now he is having trouble spelling words and doing problems and tasks that were so simple to him in the past
I'm staring at my other little one as I type...the tears flwoing non stop. I just hope and pray that he doesn't have lyme as well.
I used to think my oldest would do great things but now I'm left wondering if he'll even make it to high school graduation.
I'm just so distraught and am really an emotional basketcase today. I hope that he will get his brain back but some days I ust don't see it ever happening.

How long has your son been on treatment? Kids can usually bounce back.
Sorry I can't type more. I'm done in.

He has been in tx since September 2011. He is making some progress so I guess I should be happy for that. But still....this is just so upsetting.
I was doing well emotionally for the longest time and I just kinda lost it this morning.

phhilly78 my heart goes out to you.. I pray you will see a speedy return of your sons natural talents and that the new baby is OK.... I hope you have help, family someone to cry with.
Sounds like you have LLMD...Were you treating while pregnant?
This is an awful disease and hits people in so many different ways...
How is your treatment going?/ Are you very ill?
Dr J for kids has gotten a bunch well , so we'll hold onto that for your little guy..

my kids all had lyme. 3 while children. you need to prioritize treating both or all of you. i did that when "lyme didnt exist" in my area. ppl thought i was crazy...but i stayed focus and it was worth it. they all are in college-some grad students and all married
your son sounds like my grandson...very bright firstfew yrs but he crashed 2nd grade. dr J got him back in a few years . hes in college now.
dont doubt yourself. this is real and you can make a difference. you may need emotional support yourself first...then get the medical help for all of you
good luck.

It affects everyone differently, but he's ok. He will be too. I know how bad this can get. He was on 5 Meds at one time, he takes a vitamin now. One day at a time.

Thank you all. *Hugs*
I am feeling better about this today. One day at a time is great advice and that is what I'm gonna do.
