I have to go on IV abx..again, my current insurance is medicare with AARP Supplimental. They will not cover IV infusions at Home (which I have done 6 other times since 1987. They want me to go to a Hospital everydahy for them (even though it is more expensive). I will not go to a hospital every day! I am looking into Medicaid which I think I qualify for... My other option would be paying for a secondary private ins. comp. that will cover it..(they have in the past..I think there is a cannot accept you with pre-existing conditions in Obama care..I live in NY. Anybody have experience with this?

i dont have experience but i thought one of the major positive things about obama care was they WOULD accept you with pre existing condition
that said...i would have given anything to get iv covered when i needed it and would have gotten to the hosp is there was anyway
and my very minimal undersatnding of medicaid is they dont do much...my brother needs a hip replacement but they wont consider it til he is in a wheelchair for a year
id be very surprised if they made it easy to get lyme treatment

I have medicare and after spending 680 bucks each month medicaid kicks in and pays almost 100 percent of my copayments.
I dont have 680 bucks extra a month so rarely does it happen.
I just changed to a medicare advantage plan it will be interesting to see how it works out.
When the afordable healthcare act kicks in in 2014 I wont have a 680 spend down any more,I will have almost 100 percent coverage .

p4lyme, if Medicare will cover IV abx for you in a hospital setting, I'd go. In fact, I'd run. Get whatever treatment your ins will cover right now!
It's not worth it to hold out waiting for something better.
IMO, ``Obamacare'' will NOT be at all good for anyone suffering from Chronic Lyme Disease, pre-existing condition or not.
Remember, POTUS still relies on the CDC and the FDA for ``guidance'' in all issues regarding healthcare.
If you already have Medicare, you might qualify for Medicaid depending on your income. The combo of the two would likely be good in ``traditional'' medical scenarios like needing a hip or knee replacement and would likely be good for relatively healthy people who just need the basic bloodwork/screening testing.
MADDOG, I hope and pray you will have 100% coverage. For Lyme Disease treatment, I'm betting not.
