Panera has a hidden menu with healthier options than what is on their posted menu. Thought it might be of interest here.

Thanks for this info! I always thought Panera had healthy choices (except for the bread and bakery stuff, and few GF choices).

This menu seems to be what many people would order from--lots of good proteins, veggies, healthy oils, lemon juice. What a great option for a "fast food" meal for folks trying to maintain a healthy diet.

Gotta wonder why it is so "hidden?" Maybe it's an advertising gimmick to get people into Panera?

I don't know why it's hidden. I would think it would be popular. Maybe there's less profit on these items?

If so, maybe they're thinking these items could be too popular at the expense of their other items and cut into their profit margin?

Just thinking "out loud".

I'm treating myself to a Panera lunch tomorrow. [Smile]

Didn't look at the menu but just thinking that for celiacs there would be too great a risk of cross-contamination at Panera.

Yeah, I've eaten there but I think I'm only gluten intolerant. It was OK.

Good point tickled.

I do notice that the "front" of the place processes the baked goods. The "back" processes the salads and sandwiches, so for sure there could be cross-contamination risk.

But that's a risk I'm willing to take since I'm so far the one who tests + for gluten intolerance.

I think Panera is very receptive to input from customers as most restaurants should be.

I can tell them upfront to use separate utensils b/c I am gluten intolerant, and I can watch them prep the food.

I found this about the menu being hidden.

"Secret menus allow us to speak to one audience without the investment and infrastructure of putting an item on the menu," says Ron Shaich, founder of Panera. In this case, he says, the latest hidden menu is aimed at Panera fans who can't eat or don't want to eat the chain's most basic product: bread. All six of these items are bread-less.�Beyond that, Shaich says of secret menus, "They've very cool."�Ah, yes, the coolness quotient."
