Last week Wednesday nite I slept wrong on my shoulder
AFTER a long hard day at work with heavy things above my head being "shoved" on to shelves
All rest of week my shoulder tightened up harder every day till almost spasm by weekend'
Monday I went to chiro and he fixed me real easy and quick(In the dark during a power failure from a storm that blew thru)
anyway said I couldnt do heavy things over my head no more,,,AND had to relearn how to sleep position wise.
THAT is the problem, cant sleep on left side it makes the burn come back
cant sleep on right side cause thats the shoulder I pushed forward and in.
Cant sleep on my back, just doesnt seem right somehow.
Chiro says whatever you do dont sleep in the recliner OR in bed dont sleep with your arm out extended in any way.
Now you tell me whats left??? How do I relearn to sleep on my back which is NOT comfy???
I didnt think my shoulder/neck could hurt that bad if I was shot,,,takes more extra strength Excedrin than allowed to get to working tolerance.
I can feel its getting tight already and I am couple hours from having to go to work!!!
Teach this old dog a new trick!!!

Hi Don, sorry to hear that your shoulder is misbehaving.
You could treat it with far infrared light, also known as LED light therapy. Some places call it "cold laser," I think they might be using a different light wavelength, not sure.
The far infrared light, invisible to the eye, transmits energy to the mitochondria in the cells, which then can work better making energy. The cells function better and injuries heal, reducing inflammation and pain.
You used this therapy when you had the run-in with that rickety ladder.
Or you could use PEMF, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. This is magnetic pulses which adjust the electrical charges on both sides of the cell walls. Then minerals like magnesium and nutrients like blood sugar and oxygen can pass through the cell walls easier.
With the improved circulation, the cells function better, spasms stop, the cells heal, and pain stops. This is also used to help bones fractures heal, including hip and knee problems.
You should continue taking magnesium to help stop muscle spasms. How is your stomach doing?
I use a two inch memory foam pad on top of my firm mattress, which eases my hip and shoulder pain when sleeping. Plus I take tylenol.

I learned to sleep on my back about 12 yrs ago. Now my body is so trained that I never even TRY to roll over in the night.
My shoulders hurt too badly if I lie on my side. My hips don't like it either.
It may also help you to place a SMALL pillow under each arm. That keeps your shoulders in a good position.
I hope you can fall asleep that way! Once you fall asleep on your back a few times, you will have it mastered!

I've got a really bad shoulder too JD.
When I had my shoulder surgeries I had to buy one of those huge wedge pillows that basically raise up your upper body and make it uncomfortable to sleep in any position except your back.
It worked for me.
Also I had my arm in a sling with that small pillow attached. You can't really move your arm in that either. Putting your arm in a sling type device might be worth a shot and cheap to boot!

I use this pillow recommended by my chiro. My neck/shoulder pain have decreased since my head and shoulders are in the correct position all night.

Oh crap Don Shoulder pain is why I voted for Obama. For the afordable health care act. To get the shoulder surgery I need.
It didn't work ,Ohio senators wont except the gov.medicaid money and I am stuck with a right shoulder bicept tendon torn from the bursa, poping in and out of the groove ,and damaged rotator cuff, with lyme ate AC joint.
The left AC joint is lyme ate and hurts allso.
I can relate to the no sleep thing,it has been happening every night again. And that is when i am not up going the the bathroom to pee with my interstitial cystitus.
Falling asleep driving is (one) of the reasons i am disabled,i cant drive sometimes to dangerous!!! and I live 10 miles from town.
I roll around changing arm positions hoping to get the shoulder to stop throbing so i can sleep. When i am not in the John peeing!!!
So last night I was asleep, woke up having to pee again, like one hour from the last time.
I stood up dizzy and half asleep, tripped over an extension cord to the water bed heater while holding onto the bedroom door knob. Got my fingers stuck and twisted the shoulder AGAIN!!
CRAP!! do i know were you are at in life with that shoulder!!!

i use mintran by Standard Process to help me sleep--small amounts of magnesium, calcium, and iodine from kelp. 4-8 tablets will do it for me.
$22 for 330 tablets at my chiropractor.
Best wishes.

Dang it Don, anyone with a lick of sense would know when to call in sick!
You can't be driving long distances to work when you haven't slept.

Carol.
I work 2 different jobs. Neither one actually allows you to call in sick,,,unless your mostly dead, dying and in the hospital.
You get written up loose points, same as being late ect. So many points and your gone. Dont know how many that costs to call in sick but its alot.
The one job IS driving all day delivering stuff. Taking a nap for lunch helps some.
And I try to come home from one job, take a nap then go to next. Works out sometimes.
Doesnt help when you have to get up before 4 am to get there on time.
And then working till 7 or 8 at night,,,but the good news its only 6 days a week each,,,someplace or the other 7 days a week.
Looks like I have 4th of July off for both,,unusual But I could work at the one job,,,optional day.

Sigh...Don has a one track mind. Work work work.
Please take a day of rest to let your body recover. Would you consider getting a Magnetic Pulser? The magnetic pulses are gentle but effective at healing injuries and relieving pain.
