I really need to vent and get some ideas.

My LLMD and Dentist do not take insurance.

The cost is so expensive its practically making me go broke.

My dental situation is extremely tough also.

I had 3 teeth extracted due to a severe accident in 1993.

Had dental bridges done in 2000, with them failing, resulting in more teeth extracted (5total).

I've been looking at implants afraid to do titanium.

Bone grafting failed a year ago which means I need to start over.

I've been going to a holistic dentist who is three times the price as a traditional dentist.

How do people afford this?

I'm tempted to go back to the traditional dentist even though I don't think that's a good idea.

I don't know. I'm about to spend about $2500 on my teeth before the year is out. Then I won't have much reserve at all.

Thankfully, my medical stuff will be OK.

It won't be long and they will be pulling my teeth because I'm not going to do any implants.

tickalert and TuTu,

ANY ball park figures on how much implants cost?

I am wishing and hoping I could throw my FULL dentures away and go back to implants.

Dentures get more food under them than thru them.

Sad to say I eat most of my food without them.

I am guessing the cost for a full mouth of implants might be beyond reasonable.

Anyone had several implants done at once? Is their a 'volume' discount?

Guesses as to how much it cost are welcome.

My husband has numerous implants and I have one. They cost a few thousand dollars each. No volume discount either. And, each case is different.

If you need bone grafts, that makes the implant more expensive.

First, the doctor will have to x-ray your jaw bone to see if you have enough bone left to even qualify for an implant.

If you have had dentures for years, it is quite likely that you don't have enough jaw bone left to securely anchor an implant.

Also, first the titanium implant is surgically inserted into your jawbone. Then, you wait for a number of months for the bone to grow around it.

Then, finally, you get the "crown" or visible tooth part of the implant screwed onto the titanium "root."

So, you have to have fake teeth for the months you wait before getting the crown on each implant.

Why not ask the dentist about options such as mini-implants to anchor dentures, etc.

So, with our dentist, I would say an implant costs about $3,000 all told. I have insurance that pays a little toward an implant (like maybe $650). But insurance will not pay if dentures are a cheaper option.

And there's no guarantee that your body will accept an implant. That is where I feel it would not work for me. I'm allergic to everything.

Looks cost-prohibitive, but just wanted to say I'm extremely chem sensitive and I'm passing titanium just fine - had a plate put in for a broken arm two years ago.
