my husband had prostate cancer surgery on monday. he has a bladder bag to empty. they froze the prostate area.
first they gave him a prescription for cipro for 24 days at 1000 mg a day.
I threw a fit and gave him all the reasons why not to take it. his family has a history of strokes. his brother died last year.
he has had retina tears and glaucoma, muscle problems with statins, so called and said he wanted to change it on Tuesday. they finalled just called back and said take bactrim 1000 mg per day for 24 days.
here's what I'm asking. they said no probiotics needed, overrated. I hate to question his doctor and he will do what doctor says.
ummm, shouldn't you take probiotics when you take abx?

he never takes abx ever. we've been married 35 years and I can only remember him taking them once, maybe twice.
I'm concerned because his friend e ent to this hospital and got mrsa.
but he's healthy as a horse so it's a moot point I guess.

Maybe you can sneak them in? Does he take all his meds on his own?
You could send him a link to his email that tells about candida and what happens if you don't take probiotics. Otherwise, just leave it alone. Men have to make their own decisions.
Best of luck to you both!!
(PS .. every hospital has MRSA . .It's really bad)
