During the hurricane a homeless lady came to my home. I gave her a drink of water. Now she has started coming between 1-3 times a day.

I started 2 days ago parking my car in the back pretending to not be home. But I feel like a prisoner in my own home!!

Last night about 8:30pm she was on my porch trying to get into my house and screamed about the dog next door (she is convinced the 3 legged lab is wanted by the police).

The n'bors called the police, but she was gone by the time they got here. They said next time she comes to call 911.

Should I tell her not to come anymore or just call the police? If I call the police I am not giving her a chance to back off.

Any ideas?

I don't know what to think about that situation. Part of me would want to reach out to her but then I am not there and am sure it could be very frightening. A stanger you know nothing about.

Maybe Ras could give you some advise on this. Wonder where he is.

sounds like she needs medical attention, so i'd call 911 if that will get her examined and treated. she'll probably feel bitter about it, but, she believes the dog is wanted by the police, she needs medical attention.

if you take her to the hospital in your car, you and/or your animals, if any, stand a chance of getting bitten by fleas and other insects--this assuming she is sleeping outdoors. the homeless pop. has a very high rate of bartonella, i think at least in large urban areas.
taking her to the hospital would mean covering your passenger seat with a sheet. don't know what to cover the floor with. if she has a lot of bags, this increases the risk of infectious microbes in insects that may get loose in your car. you need another infection like you need malaria therapy.

its an agonizing, tortuous decision...

kara, try calling an organization that deal's with the homeless and needy.explain your situation to them.

they will have more experience ,handling these thing's.don't confront her by and mean's.

calling the police might not be the right solution.she my come back really pissed off.

try to see if you can arrange to have her picked up,where you are not seen to be implicated.that way,no revenge can be taken,if that is the case at all....

but you might want to put 911# on your speed dial for your own protection and peace of mind.

your kindness to her, is being taken advantage of by her..be carefull. , gary

I'm surprised you haven't offered her a nice dog steak by now. OK, seriously I would call the police so she can be taken in and evaluated by county mental health if it works that way out there.

Kara,
She sounds unstable at best in the first place and could be dangerous to you or anyone in the neighborhood.

Call 911 like they recommended and they will give her the shelter, food or mental help she really needs.

Well, tell her that the only chance she has of escaping the poison people is to go with the police, and go with them now before it's too late.

The police may be able to place her into Emergency Protective Custody. They would take her to a county hospital to be evaluated mentally.

At lease in my state we can do that...I would assume yours would too.

Kara,
It does sound as if this woman has mental health problems.
You know, there's a fair chance that she's infected with Lyme Disease.

Just a thought.

Hey just on a personal note I might be joining that woman in the near future and I think if it happens I might just see things from her eyes too... I'm sorry but I feel for her.. and I also feel for you.. I really think you need to call a local hospital and ask if they have anyone missing from the psyche ward.... and what to do when you find someone unstable in your yard everyday...
