...generic that is? I started with the brand name and had good results for several years. One day a few months ago, I picked up my toprolol ER and found my friendly Walgreens had slipped me generic metoprolol er at a nice savings, so I thought I'd give it a try. Generics is a great way to save us money in these pressing times, that's what everyone says so it must be true. It worked ok but I noticed occasionally, on the odd day that my heart rate would be a bit higher that normal, about 10 beats per minute. Around the following week I noticed on those days of high heart rate, my legs would seem a bit weak. Worrisome to say the least! To cut toda chase, late last week I picked up my monthly script of generic toprolol and Friday took one and by mid-day had an abnormally high heart rate, something like 10-15 beats above my normal at rest. I figured it would pass as it always did but Saturday it was even higher, as in stand up and the beats per min rose abruptly to 120 beats per min. Now this is getting a little scary as this is about where it has a mind of its own and goes v-tac on me! My wife has always been suspicious of generics and bless her pack rat heart, she had stashed a few of the name brand in the fridge of the motorhome (never know what you might need) in case of emergency. I took one Sunday night and within four hours was getting a small drop in heart rate and by Monday morning is was normal, took another and at 1:30 and I'm a bit better than normal.
The fact that I had minor problems early on indicates to me that there was and is a problem with the generic drug and now serious problems with the first ones out of a new bottle...... I'll tell the guy behind the counter at walgreens but then what? I'll tell my doc and give him a heads up. I'm just really lucky I'm married to a smart (and all powerfull) wife. I think most poor smucks would just think their body was at fault and not be able to do much.
I hear Socialized health care is into generics big time. Vote early (and often)!

I concur raticous,
I also have gone generic in these BP pills. I also have these symptoms.
I don't know if the symptoms are linked in any way to the meds however. I think they might have something to do with why we have high blood pressure/hypertension in the first place. Could be that neurohypertension and that could be a mimicky thing the lyme does....that's why perhaps the meds for hypertension don't work as well to prevent same.
Jus speculation....on my part....zman

Z, a months supply, 60 pills brand name will set you back about $70. I have worn a heart moninter about four years so I'm tuned in.Got 61 bpm as I set here, would have been 70-85 on generic and thats a mite high. If your doctor says you need them then insurance will pay.
