Dear Lyme Leaders, Advocates and Activists, actual or aspiring!

We are very excited about CALDA's Lyme Action Program, which will take place Thursday, October 16 in San Francisco, but so far only seven people have signed up! Because of all the upheavals in the Mervine household this summer, with trips to the ER and fires and all, I have not sent out enough reminders. But we have tried to put together a great program and we hope you will sign up for it! Sign up soon! You get a price break if you sign up before Sept. 16. After that date, the price will go up to $65. Still, it will barely cover our expenses - we have tried to keep costs low to encourage you to come.

Here's the program, we are starting at 8:00am with registration, which should be ok for jet-lagged easterners and I hope not too early for local folks.

Inspiration in Action with Pat Smith, President, Lyme Disease Association

Nuts and Bolts of Activism with CALDA CEO Lorraine Johnson, JD, MBA

Telling Your Story: Framing the Lyme Message for the Media with Isobel White, co-founder of Spark Action, a communications consulting firm, and editor of the SPIN Project's publication, ``Whose Media? Our Media! A Strategic Communications Toolkit to Reform, Reclaim, or Revolutionize the Media.''

Lunch with ``Celebrities'' (ILADS Board Members, CALDA Board Mem-bers, Lyme spirochete discoverer Willy Burgdorfer, Author Pam Weintraub, and others)

Event Planning - Panel discussion and Q&A with Marisa Battilana (CALDA), Diane Blanchard (Time for Lyme), Stephanie Spar (Turn the Corner Foundation) and maybe a few others

Sign up right away at http://www.lymedisease.org/activism/lyme_events.html
You can register online by clicking on the big blue button that says Purchase Tickets Online.

The finalized schedule may not be up on the website for a few days.

HOTEL
http://www.cathedralhillhotel.com/
I have heard that the conference hotel is sold out. You still should check by calling by calling 800 622 0855 during normal business hours.
Here is a site that lists other San Francisco hotels near the Cathedral Hill Hotel. http://search.hotelspeedy.com/nearby/hotelspeedy/37.785800/-122.421400/Cathedral%20Hill%20Hotel
Then go to http://maps.google.com/ and type in the address so you can see how close it is.

Sometimes you can get cheap rates at priceline.com
To get a really cheap price you can't select the exact hotel you want but you can select the Cathedral Hill area and bid on a room. They tell you if they accept the price you offer.

We are up to 25 registrants today for CALDA's Lyme Action Program, most from California with a sprinkling of other states.

If you are still debating, I really understand the issues - mostly the expense - but also the time and effort involved. I just hope you can find a way because the work you do is so important to patients across the USA.

I always look forward to the LDA/ILADS conferences because it is the one time a year I get to meet all the people I work with. There is nothing like it. It is so inspiring and energizing. I do hope many of you who want to, will be able to come. It would be so wonderful to meet you, not to mention that we think the program will help us all be more effective advocates.

I hope as many of you as possible will choose to come to the workshop because I think it will just be exciting to meet each other finally instead of just looking at a rectangular screen all the time!

And since I understand this is the first time a Lyme activist workshop is being offered at an LDN/ILADS conference, who knows what creative ideas and networking may come out of it? So just know that all of us may be able to begin to make a powerful difference out there and that's why y'all should come!

So far, 30 people have applied to attend.

I just called the LDA/ILADS conference hotel.
Front desk: 415-776-8200
Toll-Free Reservations: 800-622-0855

They have no available standard $119 conference-rate rooms. However they still do have FIFTEEN (15) "superior" rooms which can be had for $134. These rooms can be shared if you have someone to share with, for no extra charge. (Some have one bed, some two.)

If you make your plans after these rooms are gone, here is a site that lists other San Francisco hotels near the Cathedral Hill Hotel. http://search.hotelspeedy.com/nearby/hotelspeedy/37.785800/-122.421400/Cathedral%20Hill%20Hotel

Then go to http://maps.google.com/ and type in the address so you can see how close it is.

Sometimes you can get cheap rates at priceline.com
To get a really cheap price you can't select the exact hotel you want but you can select the Cathedral Hill area and bid on a room. You will be within walking distance if you are in reasonable physical condition. They tell you if they accept the price you offer.

To attend the CALDA Thursday workshop, you may want to reserve the night before (Wednesday Oct. 15.)

To register for the workshop, go to http://www.lymedisease.org/activism/lyme_events.html

Just saw it mentioned under General Support that the cheaper workshop rate is being extended through the end of the month. So I hope more will choose to sign up! Whoever signs up in the next five minutes gets free tickets to the next Stevie Ticks or Metalli-co's shindig...
