Has anyone ever used a far infrared heater in a small room to get a sweat going? I just looked at a few -- one halogen, one carbon filament, one unknown, all much cheaper than FIR saunas. Also, I am chemical sensitive and couldn't handle a room smell build-up.

I sent a PM responding to your PM to me.

Saw this and thought I sould mention that in my search, one carbon heater (perhaps from Amazon.com) one of the reviewers mentioned that as it heated up the first time it really smelled.

the reviews at Amazon are at the bottom of their product page. I also wonder if they coat the coils or other elements in teflon-like materials. If so, of corse, fumes from such a thing would not be good.

comparing the wattage, warranties - if any - size and number of coils - this is a projects

one thing I like about the round one is that the coil seems to be guarded.

If these are halogen, years ago I remember the problem with halogen torchiere lamps. I'd want to know more about the toughness of the halogen tubes, especially if I'm going to have my face within several feet of it. And that's where the guy who wrote the home-made sauna article might help.

maybe someone more electrically minded can help make this easy.
