I would like to get as many responses as possible detailing your experiences with treating for Candida using NATURAL treatment options.

I have been dealing with this problem for almsot 2 years now and have had limited success. I have been to a knowledgable gastroenterologist and he has helped me but was only able to get me part of the way back to being well. His last advice for me was that I would need to possibly eat a highly restricted diet for years to come and possibly the rest of my life.

I have taken various treatments over the years to deal with candida.... everything from Nystatin to Diflucan to several natural products purported to work for yeast issues.... I have seen some success but still am highly sensitive to foods and often get significant itching often. Also still wayyyy too tired most of the time.... the fog has lifted somewhat but also persists.

Thanks for any help/insight you can offer me!!!!

Sam

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

Candida diet and elimination:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021412.html
http://www.wholeapproach.com/diet/
Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements.
[e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

LoL...failure to maintain that diet after getting it under control is the key to continue to feel well.
It also rebuilds "slowly" in your system over a long period of time of just "treating yourself" every now and then.

When I first hit the yeast trail...I used the protocol from "Herbal Healer Academy" it was wonderful and today I'm heading back on.

My diet was very strick - fish and Veggies ONLY for a very long time.

Other than diet:

Olive leaf extract
Tons of pro-biotics-theralac& pro-biotic pearls
grapefruit seed extract
extra-virgin coconut oil
Pau D Arco tea

Hope this helps

I may be forgeting some but these are what stands out in my mind at the moment.

I have been unable to stomach the oregano supps but that seems to help alot of people also.

make sure to talk over every thing first with your LLMD

Check out these guys, they say that 3 or more drugs are needed at the same time to eliminate it.

You've gotten some very good advice.

Also know that there are different strains of candida. Some strains best respond to certain treatments and are resistant to others.

I have a doctor who has greatly helped me with this and does phone consults. PM me for contact info if you like.

I'm going to throw this in, 'cause I won't be around to see it being tossed back out at me:

When I was doing IV+orals for 5 months, I got candida somewhat. Now, I'm not normal in any sense, but mine got fixed with lots of good multi-cultural yogurt (ya know: Italian, Mexican, Bulgarian, Californian...) and I was eating lots of... low-sugar, bittersweet organic chocolate. Really. And cheese. Yes I did. I don't believe for a minute that having a fungus for dinner or lunch... fungi are generally anti- other fungi, ya know... stuffing a live fungus in yer mouth isn't going to promote another fungus! (but not all cheeses have fun guys in there)

Needles to say, I'm not a doctor, so if that doesn't sound too sharp for you, get another cheddar... or opinion, your choice.

My twin sister has systemc candida pretty bad. She self treated herself for a few months by using some of the natural remedies already mentioned but also used Garlic Cloves (not garlic pills - you need to swallow the real thing). She alternated the natural meds because there are many strains of yeast AND because they would start to become ineffective. Each time she began a new treatment (every couple weeks, I think but not totally sure) she would herx so she knew they were working.
An excellent product is Threelac. They also sell products to make the Threelac work better but I can't recall the name right now (google threelac). She started with that and herxed like crazy.

The most important thing is to follow the anti'yeast diet and continue to follow it as close as you can probably for the rest of your life (yuck, I know). My sister has come to terms with that.

Makes sense, especially since there are medicinal mushrooms, which are fungi.

So, who, in the cheese family wears the white hats, and who wears the black hats?.............obviously, I want some cheese......this goat stuff is becoming monotonous!
