Leslie was one of the true heroes in this disease and I am so blessed to have known her. My heart goes out to Tracie and others in Leslie's family and circle of friends. She will not be forgotten.

How absolutely tragic that Lyme has claimed the life of another one of our own and someone with such a kind and beautiful spirit. I can't describe my feelings of frustration every time I hear of the death of a fellow Lymie...it's just so unecessary, and it's absoltely sickening.
No one should die of Lyme disease. NO ONE!!! No one should suffer for five years, or ten or twenty with unimagenable pain as a completely treatable disease eats away at their body while incompetent doctors stand by and do nothing.
It's unfair and completely wrong and there's no excuse.
My prayers go out to her family and I hope that they take solace and comfort in the fact that she's now in the company of angels.

Leslie brought up a very important point, which is how invisible the illness is to others.
Challenge for us: how to make the invisible visible?
Maybe we need to run around with some of those darkfield pictures/videos showing the spirochetes swimming/burrowing/drilling their little selves through blood vessel walls?

I viewed this. I have avoided seeing Under our Skin as I thought I'd get too depressed. I'm sure its a masterpiece though.
Questions I have, if anybody has the answers to these, because they are so important to understanding what was going on:
1) She, her Dad and her sister got it. Are there other siblings that did not get it? How about the mother?
Is her sister's disease less intractable (I infer this but am not sure). Is the Dad mostly recovered?
2) Did neighbors get it? In what area do they think they got it (camping, or around their home). Sometimes I read about whole neighborhoods where people are ill. I know those are the neighborhoods with virulent strains and multiple coinections. A moderate strain of lyme alone, many people will get over fairly easily, I believe.
I really think we need to look at MINI ECOSYSTEMS. We need to examine the ticks in the areas/neighborhoods where PEOPLE GOT SICKEST. Folks, this is not that hard to do. Looks like there is some kind of foundation that sponsored Burrascano's project, they could sponsor this with Eva Sapi for instance. You can gather ticks easily just put out seltzer bottles (release carbon dioxide) and they will come within the day to "feed". They don't realize it's not actually a mammal.
3) Was she on multiple pain and sleep meds? Heath Ledger died from the interaction of various meds and he didn't have lyme. Sometimes lyme patients are on a lot of these meds and they can suppress respiratory function.
I would like to know. Does anybody have any answers to the above?
To render her death "meaningful" probably in a way she would like, we need to learn from it. All the above questions if answered would help us understand better what was at work.

Right... I wonder, did Lyme actually kill her or was it something else that was complicated by Lyme? What, exactly, was it? Heart, Liver, ... ? Was she being treated?
Hearing about a Lyme death is just tragic.. my heart goes out to her family and loved ones.
At the same time, it just scares me to death as a mother with young children and having been sick for so long before diagnosis.

This is so sad -- my thoughts go out to her family. She looks like an amazing person who fought not just for herself but fought tirelessly for Lyme awareness.
The Under Our Skin website says the death was from heart failure. Does anyone know if that heart failure was from Lyme, a coinfection, or both?
Lyme, babesia, bartonella, tularemia, Q fever, and maybe others can all cause life-threatening cardiac problems. It would be helpful for those of us with heart problems to know if coinfections were implicated as well as Lyme. Does anyone know?

i'll take my best guess on last question asked.
i think only an AUTOPSY of those body parts would conclude if lyme/co-infections caused the heart complications due to lyme.
oxygen, yes, it is very tastefully done, and i thought i'd cry alot, but i didn't because it was so professionally done.
i think only leslie's family/partner might be able to answer your questions.

OB The movie is sad and it made me cry more than once while viewing it but it is still worth watching. Leslie's memorial is very sad. I wish the whole world could see it especially the IDSA.
I really hope that the USA is now ready to change and the all the lies about Lyme disease will come out into the open and the truth will be told. I also hope that the IDSA is punished for their lies and corruption. I think Leslie is going to help us with this from the other side.
I also hope everything along the lines of using the disease as a bio-weapon comes out in the open too so that some how this practice can be stopped.
Maybe with our new politicians in office things will change for all of us with this disease.
