Was just briefly in hospital with acute pancreatitis, very sudden, very unexpected. Not due to alcohol (never drink) or diet; mine is very healthy.
My Lyme MD says it's due to either the 'bugs' (I've got Borrellia and Babs)or doxycyclene.
How long did it take you to feel fully recovered, and what was your process?
It's been 3 weeks. I'm better, but only ~ 50%. Taking enzymes and some other new treatments, eating conservatively, low fat, gluten-free (still) but this was a little scary. I don't need any more issues!
thanks

Wow... I would be very wary of continuing any antibiotics from this point on. Even herbs could mess you up once the pancreas is irritated. That is just my OPINION.
What does your GI doctor think to be the cause?

Have yet to see a GI - next week. This is all very new for me.
Yes, the Lyme MD says no more doxy, ever, just in case. Which is a bummer since it is the one anti that didn't give me grief.

- There are several very specific herbs &/or herbal combination formulas that may be a wonderful help but an expert in that field could best guide you.
As infections can cause all kinds of issues with the pancreas, it's still important to address infection but in a way that will work with the pancreas.
You might consult with an ILADS educated LL ND (naturopathic doctor) &/or acupuncturist (who are usually also trained in herbal medicine). Your local LLMD will likely know of one or more. Or ask at your local / regional lyme support groups

My amalyse or lipase one of the two was slightly elevated, probably still is. I'm on doxycycline. I think my pancreas is inflamed, because I can feel something where its located. I had an MRI, and they said it was clean as far as my pancreas but I have gallbladder sludge. I don't know what to think anymore.

My friend, who has been on doxy for years, had her gallbladder out, but had to have surgery again when they her leftover gall duct had sludge. So apparently it can be a problem even after the gallbladder is gone. I'd have them check that out.
They say mine is gallbladder is fine, however; yet I'm still off all antibiotics and it's not making me feel good needless to say. Still have yet to see the GI, had to postpone due to problems with Medicare coverage. They screwed up and discontinued my part B, and even though it was not my doing, say I can't re-enroll til January, and coverage won't start until next July. so angry I can't adequately express.
I can't tell you how many times I've had the health care system add insult to injury this way. Now I have to find *affordable* alternative health insurance, somehow, and in a big hurry.
Sigh. I've given up on part time work or complete disability, neither pays the bills. Just interviewed for a full time job, have no idea how I'll manage with the chronic fatigue and migraines, but c'est la vie.

I am scared after my MRI that they missed pancreatitis on it.... I still have the sensation and horrible feeling where the tail of my pancreas is (back left side)... its like a dead feeling back there or like when your hand falls asleep except that is how it feels in my back. I am meeting with the gallbladder surgeon on monday

Sister in law had sudden pancreatitis while on vacation in St. Pete, Fl. Docs at hospital said when she got home (Indy) to have a mammogram done ASAP.
Yes, she had early onset breast cancer. Yes, she was treated (surgeries) and
cured.
Apparently pancreatitis can be an early sign of breast cancer.

Yes, doxycycline has been reported RARELY to cause pancreatitis. So has - rarely - progesterone and very rarely, ibuprofen, all which I was taking.
Thanks for the heads up on the mammogram. Odd, but good to know.
I am finally getting some more tests by the GI specialist. So far it's still one big question mark, but next stop: ultrasounds to find out more. the MD said drug-induced pancreatitis is rather rare, then he started saying things like ruling out cysts, cancer, and all that fund stuff that would at the least all result in surgery.
So I am going to try and do what I usually don't, which is not worry about it until test results start providing answers.
