One of our two Goldendoodles came in from playing and while my daughter was holding her we noticed a tan, oval shaped thing on her head, but just in the fur. She had just had a bath and we had groomed her, so it was new and came right off. Called the vet and took in the live tick. Hadn't attached, so no need to worry they said.
Sounds like they are now advising owners to use Frontline or Advantix year round!!! They are seeing lots of ticks this late into the year. The doods were too young for the tick/flea meds, but they are fine now (4 months) to start them. I plan to keep them on it year round as they want to roll on the ground and bushes all the time, and I don't want ticks in the house or on them!

Please always use caution when handling any tick. Rocky Mountain Spotted fever is only one TBD that can be acquired transdermally!
Wearing gloves is optimal, but at least wash your hands right away thoroughly.

Having a dog myself, made me check out this topic.
I'm hearing that Advantix is better than Frontline here and wondering if someone can tell me why that is and what the differences are.
Our vet has always recommended Frontline and that's what we have been using since we first got her 10 1/2 years.
Four in our family have lyme, but so far the dog has no symptoms and always tests negative at her yearly appointments. She does get the lyme vaccine but not sure if that's good or bad.
Since it's really hard to swap meds, when you feel that one may be working, but at the same time, I KNOW the severity of Lyme, I do want to investigate this further.
Can anyone tell me why one product is considered better than the other?

Our Vet sells both and recommended Frontline. She said some dogs get sick from Avantix and since the Goldendoodles are having reactions to everything, (tick bite swelling all up even though there is no embedded tick, swelling from suture material used in neuter and spay surgery, bug bites that turn red and swell...) thought Frontline would be best for now. They are 5 months old. Didn't realize they were such high maintenace, but they are a wonderful breed and hopefully will outgrow it.
