Hi, as my post with this question was unanswered I am posting it again, hoping that as a newbie my question won't be seen as heretical.

I was just wondering because after my flu symptoms subsided, some 3 weeks out after a tick bit that had yielded a large "atypical" rash I felt great, until I upped my doxy to 300mgs. Four days later I was in the Er with a "TIA" . Only whatevr it was , it is now clear it wasn't a TIA. :ater I read on these boards about herxes and assumed that's what I had experienced.

My question to you all is: is it within the realm of possibility that a healthy (uninfected,) person take a large dose of abx and have a severe reaction to the meds themselves.? My GP (before I found a lld) had hypothezised this, but also mentioned the possibility of a herx. (good for him!)

I'm starting the doxy again, ramping up from 2 today to three tomorrow until I get up to (gulp) 4 for at least two months. The Igenix test results are due back sometime next week. if they prove all negative, should I contunue to treat? I'm feeling almost normal today. The fever in my brain which started after the "TIA" has subsided and at the moment I have no symptoms. Quiet before the storm? Has anyone ever given high doses of abx to non infected people? If so, what were their symptoms?I'd be curious to know.

Consider two effects of the doxy.

1. Increased pressure in the brain(intracranial pressure). The sensation of pulsing may be the tip-off to this.
2. Severe Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction

I've had both, severely, when doing doxycycline. First time infected, with a loading dose of, I think, 200mg.

A few "moons-ago," I did either 100mg or 200mg,and same thing. This can be very dangerous. So I skipped next dose, and 2-3 days before taking the next 100mg. As I recall, from then on, I increased the time interval(12-24hr.) between doses,to minimize negative effects.

Thanks for that/ I've decided to pace myself and get to know what I can tolerate. My ex-girlfriend thinks I should just go up to the 400mg full tilt, but i'm not so sure. (Maybe she wants me to suffer!)(LOL) But i think i'll slowly ramp up. Don't want a repeat of two weeks ago! Ita inproductine in my mind to "hit it hard" only to have to back off to recoup. A steady war seems better than a bigg battle and a retreat.
