Ok, I know many of those that have gotten better are long gone.. but, on the chance somebody's still hanging around - here's my situation:

My LLMD has me on a program to wean me off abx gradually. I am now down to 4 days a week on half dose of Rifampin (300mg) and Flagyl (375mg) Sat-Sun. Every two weeks I cut back one more Rifampin. When I get down to 1 per week, I cut the Flagyl. Seems like a very gradual plan, and it's taken a while to even get this far. I must note that I am taking TOA-Free Cat's Paw and will continue to do so.

Has anyone done this type of wean off and been successful? I still have some issues (tinnitus/dizziness) but it's nowhere as bad as it was - I'd say I'm about 80% better, and am aggressively treating yeast now. Anyone have anything positive for me?(I hope)

from those who i have spoken to who have gotten 100% they said it was imperative to stay on abx for at least 2 months asymptomatic before discontinuing abx treatment as to lower any chance of possible relapse.

but glad to hear you are doing better!

I dont think rifampin is a drug you skip days on.I believe you either take it every day or not at all.My doc stressed you cant start and stop rifampin and Ive seen that here on lymenet.I dont know why but thats what Ive heard, maybe resistance.

As long as you continue to HAVE rifampin in your body, you wont become allergic ( which is the risk of it, its one of the ones you can become allergic to very fast)

Thats what happened to me- I was on a regime of ten days on and ten days off and ended up in the ER.

I wouldnt ween until you are 100 percent. I know thats not good news, but I wouldnt do it. Symptoms=still infected.

If you think you *can* though, then go ahead. Sometimes, its the abx alone that are causing the continued symptoms. ya never know but its a HUGE change to take.

Up to you!

I didnt make it. Five weeks and I got SLAMMED with everything all over.

Just as a side note - I was cut back from Rifampin 300mg twice a day 9 weeks ago (and put on Cats Paw) to 300mg M-F and have been doing great (improving). Been on Rifampin since March.

Was hoping to hear some better news, as these are instructions from my LLMD.

I think I am a success story. In the end it was Zithromax for me. After I went off the Zithromax I was treated for Babesia. I have been fine every since then.

But I had to be patient. It took 4 1/2 years of meds.
