I am an old time lymie, and two months ago had an elective surgery unrelated to lyme. As part of the recovery I was given antibiotics for seven days. About a month later I started having lots of problems:
Forgetfulness
Ocular problems
Waves of excessive salivation
Excessive perspiration
Mood swings
Eye lid twitching (contacts?)
Right upper biceps had a twitch
Auditory problems
Nightmares
Lightheadedness
These problems lasted about two weeks and cleared up by themselves. Then a few days ago I started getting aches in old lyme related spots. Like my right shoulder, right elbow, left side pelvis, and right thigh.
Does anybody think these are related? I ask this because next month on the 17th I am having another procedure.
My question is this is:
Is my lyme reactivated through the trauma or from antibiotics being introduced?
Will it go into remission again by itself, or am I in for another bout of lyme madness. any insight would be nice.
I had been off abx since last August, another story and my Lyme symptoms became more pronounced. I required a whole extra month of PT in order to recover the use of my right arm, which now is about 90%.
I had LD lie dormant for years and only started presenting with symptoms after a severe head trauma from a bad fall, twice in one night, on concrete.
So, yes, what you are describing is either a herx reaction to the abx you took, or, just plain ole LD symptoms.
My LLMD describes herxs as INTENSE LYme symptoms that you've had in the past and NEW ones that you've never experienced before. So, what you are diesribing falls into either category...take your pick.
IMO, you need to be seeing a real LLMD...for to see less, will only cost you much time and much money, not to mention you future health. NOW...is the time to act and get to one.

Thanks for responding. It looks like my lyme has been a sleeping dog, and I woke him up.
The symptom that I put in list form have pretty much gone away. I am waiting to see if they cycle around this month.
Now the aches and pains are a different picture. It seems they come around every year at this time. It was eight years ago this month I was diagnosed.
The reason roses I believe it is a herx like you expressed, is because I usually get excruciating foot pain every fall, and my foot pain is nil this year. My toesies are quite dandy this year and I'm wondering if it is because of the seven days of antibiotics.

Trout your concern about the blood supply is probably founded. I used to be a regular donor and an apheresis donor. They called eight years ago when I was sick. I told them I had lyme and haven't heard from them since. They were always calling me, and then just stopped. I have often wondered why, if it so benign?

and boy oh boy... you can imagine my surprise. I havent been the same since!
I had been on abx before that zithromax and nothing happened, but all heck broke loose on that.
And CrimeOfLyme my doc is one of the sainted ones. He has been a g-d send, and has had me in a good place for a long time.
The next procedure doesn't involve cutting, so it will be interesting to see if it causes any further developments.
Does anyone think it will just settle back down again, or if it resurfaces at all it means a full blown attack?

I was pointing out, when I said that, that I do not think it is appropriate for OTHER posters to tell you to get a REAL LLMD. Thats why i said "insert sarcasmhere"
I am sure it will settle back down. Have you called your LLMD yet?

I agree that Lyme/mycoplasm and it's co-infections morph and go into hiding in some of the most bizarre places. Surgery/trauma unleashes critters.
My LLMD told me that dental extractions unleashed havoc in my system when we extracted old root canals.
He forbid me to go back to the oral surgeon until I had been on his protocol for at least a month.
This is why I am interested in the bioenergetic methods of tracking down the critters and blasting them in every form...cyst, intracellular and extracellular.
However, this is NOT my expertise and I am learning and reading and listening to others report their results.

Morphing is a wonderful word for the reaction that happened to me. It was like I morphed back in time, to before I knew what was going on with me.
After being on the protocol a month, was your oral surgery experience better?
I see my LLMD about two weeks prior to my next procedure, do you think I would benefit from a few weeks antibiotics prior too,or right after this next procedure?
CrimeOfLyme I hope you are right and it does calm down by itself. And no I have not called my doctor, only because the more disturbing symptoms have gone away.
I am grateful the the seven days of antibiotics have seemed to have done something positive, as the foot and toes are not painful for the first time in eight autumns. It used to be a right of passage this time of year.

Oh Maggie, that bioenergetic method you were talking about. What is that? I understand your not an expert, but I've never even heard of it. Can you give a simple explanation?

Two years ago I was in the hospital getting a new prescription tested, the lyme symptoms came up, and boy were the prevalent. They tested me for lyme, lord and behold, it came back positive.
This past summer, again the phych Dr. put me on new meds, guess what the lyme symptoms came back. Not only that, they were between stage 2 and 3.
Can trauma trigger it don't know. Anything that plays havoc with the immune system can cause it. Right now I fell something going on with my body, fells like a cold or fue, will know in 3 to 5 days when the immune systems breaks down.
As for me, meds can trigger and aggravate the lyme.
I stopped taking the phych PR.
