I just started the IV Rocephin at 50mL per day. I started on Tuesday and I went to see the Doc on Saturday. He was surprised to find that I still did not register no Herx due to the drug. This is scaring me since no Herx no Lyme. Although he says I do have lyme and treatment should continue.
I have a lot of pain all over the body specailly when I apply pressure to the body and it is this pain that mostly bothers me. I also came positive for Trichinosis which is an incfection from infected pork. He said that the symptoms are very similar to each other. He was implying that maybe the pain is due to the Pork infection. This is scary since this can not be reverse.
Could this be the reason I am not registering a Herx reaction? and
Should I be concerned if I have no reaction at all?
Do you need a Herx reaction to confirm that it is Lyme?
Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the long post.
Alberto
The next time i went on rocephin i herxed at exactly every 4 weeks though the first few days i took it i did feel very tired too.
don't worry, feel lucky and be prepared.
My LLMD says only 50% of her patients herx.
The more important question in all of this, is how do you feel? Some lyme patients will not herx, and will start to feel better, so keep track of your symptoms, and monitor your progress.

Unfortunatley some good intended docs give us the wrong info.
You are on the right path.
Be patient and trust that you will get better.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

My other worry is Trichinosis. Today I am to schedule a doc visit to have a muscle biopsy that would determine if i have the virus in me. I will keep you posted. Thanks to All. Herxes generally start from four days to a week after you start an abx. But as another poster said, sometimes Lyme really isn't the problem. That would be good news for you.
How long were you on IV?
However, I did not herx on the Rocephin. I was fatigued, but no pain. I only got better! After two mos. on Rocephin I did another 8 months on orals before all my pain was gone. I've been in remission now since January and loving it! Hang in there...give it a chance! Nancy I was on IV for nine months...herxes came and went like clockwork after the first one.
My doctor had me take orals before I went off the IV, and continue for 4 months after that. Unfortunately the results were not long lasting.

Thanks All for your help. I appreciate your kind words. I am more than ready for the Herx. I am not scared of it, but I was under the impressions that If you get no herx then you are not doing the killing of lymies.

Supposedly, a natural anti-inflammatory called bromelain has helped some people.

I never herxed on IV Rocephin. I just got better. I did relapse after going off the follow-up orals, however.

I herx'd on every oral I tried.
Posted by breathwork (Member # 567) on :
I didn't really herx until week four...then it took six weeks for it to subside. Until week four it was very gradually increasing tiredness...

I was on IV Rocephin for a total of 2 1/2 months in the summer of 2002. It definitely helped, but it also precipitated the removal of my gallbladder.
