I just started the IV Rocephin at 50mL per day. I started on Tuesday and I went to see the Doc on Saturday. He was surprised to find that I still did not register no Herx due to the drug. This is scaring me since no Herx no Lyme. Although he says I do have lyme and treatment should continue.
I have a lot of pain all over the body specailly when I apply pressure to the body and it is this pain that mostly bothers me. I also came positive for Trichinosis which is an incfection from infected pork. He said that the symptoms are very similar to each other. He was implying that maybe the pain is due to the Pork infection. This is scary since this can not be reverse.
Could this be the reason I am not registering a Herx reaction? and Should I be concerned if I have no reaction at all? Do you need a Herx reaction to confirm that it is Lyme?
Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the long post. Alberto

I would recommend that you be happy that you don't have a herx yet. But a herx may come along soon. The timing can vary quite a bit. The intensity, too, can be quite variable. For me the "herx" usually hit around 3 weeks after I started a new abx combi. Gingko seemed to help tone down the "herx" a bit. 'Nutrijoint' and advil helped a little, too. (for ...'celebrex'.., NOTHIN' BUT THE THUMBSCREWS!-- see other posts I have made on that.!.) Again, the "herx" is unpredictable. While no herx could possible mean the abx are not getting the stuff, that's not always the case. There's all kinds of timing factors involved.

My thought exactly, COL! Pollo, if you scroll down a bit, you will find another thread where a poster was concerned about not having a herx. In that post I explained that I'm 4 years into treatment, feeling better finally and all herx free.
The more important question in all of this, is how do you feel? Some lyme patients will not herx, and will start to feel better, so keep track of your symptoms, and monitor your progress. cootiegirl

Rocephin May not work on the strain of lyme you have or it hasnt killed enough of the spirochetes to produce a herx yet sometime well in my case I was on abx's almost three months before I herxed then I herxed every month.(28to34 days lyme cycle) The herx reaction is toxins from dead spirochetes and if enough hasnt been killed yet to overload your system from ridding toxins you wont herx until your overloaded with toxins.

Thanks All for your help. I appreciate your kind words. I am more than ready for the Herx. I am not scared of it, but I was under the impressions that If you get no herx then you are not doing the killing of lymies.
My other worry is Trichinosis. Today I am to schedule a doc visit to have a muscle biopsy that would determine if i have the virus in me.

Supposedly, a natural anti-inflammatory called bromelain has helped some people.
Herxes generally start from four days to a week after you start an abx. But as another poster said, sometimes Lyme really isn't the problem. That would be good news for you.

I never herxed on IV Rocephin. I just got better. I did relapse after going off the follow-up orals, however.

I was on IV Rocephin for a total of 2 1/2 months in the summer of 2002. It definitely helped, but it also precipitated the removal of my gallbladder.
My doctor had me take orals before I went off the IV, and continue for 4 months after that.
Unfortunately the results were not long lasting.
