I went to a rhuemuy today that is highly respected. His beside manner is immpeccable. He has an office in a very ritzy area. His staff is professional. He doesn't rush through patients. Blah, Blah Blah. A dream doctor.

Guess what?! He thinks Lyme is cured in 3 weeks. I gave him literature which he scanned and gave back to me. He bad mouthed Dr. B.

I'm going to send literature to him once a month.

Even "brilliant" Doctors are idiots when it comes to Lyme. I wonder how many patients had the typical symptoms of Lyme that he missed.

I asked him how many Lyme patients have asked about the shoulder pain. He said that there was rarely Lyme in that part of Long Island. That he only had a couple of Lyme patients from out east of Long Island. (Dr. B's neck of the woods)

Well at least he says I don't have any permanent damage arthritis wise.

What an annoying tiresome day!

Good nite,
Heather

Sounds like that duck is a banana split for the alligator pit!

The gators do appreciate dining from a "ritzy" menu every now and then... so heave ho ... and in the duck goes!

And for the nasty comments he made about LLMD's... please hang him upside down by his big toe for a week.. inches from the gators reach... before tossing him in... and let him think about his mean mouth comments before he is fed to the gators. Ok?

And for being ignorant to you... and causing you problems...

Be sure he is in his birthday suit while hanging there.

If I had not moved to MO, I'd still be taking prednisone so willingly handed to me by my rheumatologist. What a nightmare the rest of my life would have been!

I don't like rheumies at all!

Sorry you wasted your money on an idiot!

For any doctor that says stuff like that is a quack.

What about all of the case reports of it taking years before some cases get put into remission?

What about all of the different strains of Bb there are? And co-infections?

What about the medical studies conducted in many countries that prove you can have an active infects after a year of ABX?

Lyme can be cured in three weeks IF CAUGHT EARLY. A majority of the cases are not, hence longer treatment. It's like catching cancer early or late, you catch it early, chances are you will be cured.

It's like a mechanic saying, "in all cases, if you lose all of the oil in any engine, it's going to cost $3672.45 to repair and rebuild the engine after it locks up".

Well for starters, you know a mechanic that says that is a quack. Because:

A. There are many types of engines, some are built better than others, some engines are newer than others, so they might survive low oil conditions and get repaired for cheap. An older engine that's on it's last leg, will probably need a rebuild after low oil conditions. So all cases will vary. (Same with people.)

B. Depends on how quick the problem is found, and fixed. (Same with people.)

C. It depends on what team of mechanic and what quality of tools they use to fix the engine, as well as if they are specialized in repairing the type of engine you have, is it a domestic Ford, or is it a Toyota engine? These engines are different in how you repair them. (Same with people.)

The correct answer to a question like this, if you have a good mechanic, would be more questions! He would come back to you and say, "Well depends on how old the engine is, what kind of car is it? How many miles are on the engine?" etc.

The same goes for the a doctor. Any time a doctor will give you a quick generalized answer without thinking or applying it to your case, or asking for specifics, does not know what he is talking about. For any condition, not just Lyme.

Chances are, he is just remembering crap he learned in med school, which you all know, what you learn in school, does not always apply in the real world today.

I would say - run, not walk away from that doctor.

I have seen two rheumies in this state (NJ). Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Never, ever again.

I had a terrible experience with a rheumy. He cited the Klempner study to show that long term abx doesn't help anyone. When I burst into tears, he said, "SHHH!! I have patients in the other rooms!"

And he said coolly, with a hostile stare, "There is no controversy about Lyme. There is no chronic Lyme."

Then he charged me $300 for 15 minutes and insurance did not cover it.

This duck is in MA so beware of him!

I find rheumies to be the absolute worst. Everything is fibromyalgia to them.

So sorry you experienced this! I know how awful it feels.

Alligator food!!!!!!!

Way back, before I knew I had Lyme, my confused GP told me to see a Neuro. Neuro's are not much better.

But at least mine did not have an attitude or anything.

When I told him of my symptoms and asked what it could be, as well as if it could be something like Lyme, he rolled his eyes back in his head.

He said that he gets a lot of people like me with strange symptoms.

The funny thing was...

He went on to say that he has NO CLUE what is going on with them, and he went on to say he has no idea what do with them.

After talking to him for 10 minutes, he filled out a perscription for a pain killer and sent me on my way.

I only got some blood tests because I did my own research and requested the tests name by name.

Otherwise, I would have been on pain killers for the rest of my life.

I did not go back.

No surprises here.

I always advise people to hit their head up against a concrete wall a couple of time before they see a Rhumy or ID Doc.
