For any doctor that says stuff like that is a quack. What about all of the case reports of it taking years before some cases get put into remission?
What about all of the different strains of Bb there are? And co-infections?
What about the medical studies conducted in many countries that prove you can have an active infects after a year of ABX?
Lyme can be cured in three weeks IF CAUGHT EARLY. A majority of the cases are not, hence longer treatment. It's like catching cancer early or late, you catch it early, chances are you will be cured.
It's like a mechanic saying, "in all cases, if you lose all of the oil in any engine, it's going to cost $3672.45 to repair and rebuild the engine after it locks up".
Well for starters, you know a mechanic that says that is a quack. Because:
A. There are many types of engines, some are built better than others, some engines are newer than others, so they might survive low oil conditions and get repaired for cheap. An older engine that's on it's last leg, will probably need a rebuild after low oil conditions. So all cases will vary. (Same with people.)
B. Depends on how quick the problem is found, and fixed. (Same with people.)
C. It depends on what team of mechanic and what quality of tools they use to fix the engine, as well as if they are specialized in repairing the type of engine you have, is it a domestic Ford, or is it a Toyota engine? These engines are different in how you repair them. (Same with people.)
The correct answer to a question like this, if you have a good mechanic, would be more questions! He would come back to you and say, "Well depends on how old the engine is, what kind of car is it? How many miles are on the engine?" etc.
The same goes for the a doctor. Any time a doctor will give you a quick generalized answer without thinking or applying it to your case, or asking for specifics, does not know what he is talking about. For any condition, not just Lyme.
Chances are, he is just remembering crap he learned in med school, which you all know, what you learn in school, does not always apply in the real world today.
I would say - run, not walk away from that doctor.
