Itchy skin? Yes! Especially after I'd spent even a minute in the sun. Not an uncommon thing to happen with lyme disease.
You need to see a LLMD (lyme literate medical doctor) to treat your symptoms ASAP!
Hopefully someone will come along soon to post our newbie links for your many questions.
Good luck!
10 days is often not enough to rid your body of the Lyme. If you have Lupus, your immune system is already overworked. I would assume your body is even more likely to react strongly to the Lyme, which may make it worse.
I'd be safe and try to find a doctor who is willing to treat longer.

Hi and WELCOME! Get a LLMD or at least Dr that is willing to learn about lyme. "Lyme literacy" means, first and
foremost, knowing how to diagnose the disease accurately. Borrelia Burgdorferi is a clinical diagnosis, based on symptoms and on your response to treatment. Good Luck, bumpy road ahead.

How UltraSound Works Interested in what Trolls are? Updated 07/06/05 You may want to read the treatment guidelines at www.ilads.org. Does it say that a bull's eye rash is diagnostic for lyme? Does it recommend 6 weeks of doxycycline at 300-600 mg per day? I have read that the rash will fade regardless of treatment. Lupus and lyme share some symptoms, you may wish to explore this.

Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend several months reading all of this. print & read Dr. Barrascono's info first; you will come back to this often. Also, see Cheryl's extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT ... wonderful! Some guidelines from Betty/others on using this message board: * Do NOT use all caps when posting; it's hard on our eyes. But I know one of our members has macular degeneration, and all caps is what she can see & read so exceptions like this are acceptable for good reasons. * We chronic, late-stage lymies can NOT read long paragraphs. So please limit your paragraphs to 6-8 lines max of text and double space between paragraphs. * You can EDIT your text comments anytime. You can NOT edit your subject line so please make it as specific as possible instead of ``help, question'' etc. in order to have more readers/replies in trying to assist you. There are between 30-40 NEW/replies to post daily so we can't read all the posts on our limited time here...thanks for understanding. * If you use the ``quote'' icon, please DELETE [B] bold at the beginning & ending of the quote. This makes it easier on our chronic, late-stage lyme eyes. * To just reply without quoting, go to the top or bottom of screen in the black & white area to reply or post a new topic. Many of us couldn't see it when we 1st started posting. Thank you for helping us all out! Bettyg Your Lupus diagnosis could possibly be incorrect. Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed as lupus. (I had a rheumy try to diagnose me with lupus). You would be better off getting to a doctor who has experience diagnosing and treating Lyme disease and its associated infections. Please don't delay and good luck to you.
If you would like the name of a local doc, you can e-mail me. We don't post doctor's info. on this site. I wouldn't recommend her for late stage lyme but she would be a lot more knowledgeable than a rheumie, for your position. Take Care...Terri

Your antibiotic treatment was not for long enough, and your dose was probably inadequate. If you were given Doxycycline, the dose has to be atleast 400 mg per day and taken for atleast 4 weeks, 6 is better. Did you save the tick and have it tested?
Make sure you are tested for all co-infections ASAP. You likely need more treatment and ASAP. Dont wait for a Rheumy, you need to get to a Lyme doctor, even a family doc right away and get more doxycycline, and take the correct doses.
Email me if you need any help or info.

The doxy and any contact with sun and/or heat made my skin sooooo itchy, I was miserable. I got off doxy and the itchies went away immediately. This could possibly be an explanation for you but maybe not...just thought I would throw it out there for you to consider. Hang in there. Betsy
