would love people's input on how they fared taking ketek....when herxing occured, if it affected their GI, etc...

I have been taking Ketek for about 2 mos. This is the first antibiotic that I had a very noticeable herx on right away, and I had been on very aggressive oral combos for over a year once I started taking this. I was very dumb to start it right before I left for a vactation to HI. However, once I backed off, so did the Herx. Once I started taking it regularly again, tho, I felt like I was in a constant herx.
I have found Ketek easy on the GI tract, and as long as I continue w/ my probiotics, the yeast/thrush stays under control. I've taken other ABX with much worse effects.
Right now, I'm pulsing both Ketek and Minocin. My LLMD thought I was in a constant die-off, and the combo was too strong.
I know others have seen great results with Ketek, so you may want to do a search for more input.
Healing thoughts, Jewl

Hi. I began taking Ketek 12/31/04. Within hours, believe it or not, the brain fog started to lift. I've been on it since then. I've had 2 or 3 pulses of Flagyl since then. And have added other regimens: cat's claw, elderberry, gingko drops, NAC, garlic, Vitamin B complex, magnesium, probiotics, and many supps. I started going back to the gym, weight training, and getting in the steam room every visit. I'm also getting Immune solution and glutathione IV drips every two weeks. The most recent treatments have been 2 homeopathic remedies, which seem to be working on clearing up the 2 year old hairball in my throat which is always accompanied by lower back ache. My osteopath and naturopath have renewed my Ketek prescription for an 8th month. Oh, one more thing, I also take a fiber supp every day. I'm feeling better than I have in ages, but still have a way to go.

I've been on Ketek since November 2004. It's my wonder drug. My LLMD thinks the Lyme is gone and that in 2 months I'll be off abx.
When I first started Ketek, I was extremely fatigued. That lasted for about 2 weeks or so. My GI was fine on Ketek. I even got really bad on my yeast diet and had no problems.
What makes Keek a wonder drug? We believe I got rid of a light load of babesia with Ketek, Plaquenil and Artemisinin. No Mepron! It was a light load though.

how much ketek are you all taking?
Posted by DanP (Member # 7501) on :
I'm taking 400 mg twice a day within 2-3 hours of each other (total=800 mg).

Also 400mg twice a day.

Daughter has been on it since March, 800mg once a day, along with Mepron and Rocephin shots. LLMD took her off of all meds but 400 mg Ketek once a day. She still isn't feeling any better. Head hurts BAD between eyes, and ears and eyes hurt too.

It's not perfect, but it's a million times better than nearly everything else I've taken. The improvements it's given me include being able to exercise again, and reducing Lyme symptoms to the point where I can tell them apart from co-infections. It also may help with babesia.

Thanks, everyone for your replies.
I just downed my first 400 mg tablet last night, and my second this morning. (I'm also on 800 mg/day). (AND I'm on IV rocephin too!) I could probably market my blood as some kind of antibacterial soap at the moment!
I hope it helps!

How expensive is this stuff? [thankfully, I have good insurance...but I don't want to run into trouble with it either]
I think a month or two on ketek would "finish off" my Lyme and babesia for good. Waddya think??

It's $215 for 60 from an online Canadian pharmacy and double that at CVS.
My HMO declined to pay for a script for 60 but did pay for 14 at a time.
Am I allowed to post the C phar name? You all can email me I guess.
I take ketek along with IM Bicillin.

I think that's about the same price as zithromax. Thanks, Janet. I don't need the pharm link. I would get it thru my prescription service.
