Hi all, I am taking IV 200 doxy for 4 days, then 750Mg Vancomyocin 4 days and rotate. This has been 3 weeks and I am not having a reponse. Yrs past I took only Doxy up to 600 a day...for a year. I have new Dr. in a new state, he himself has Lyme. He claims you only herx while on abx, and ONLY when the spirocetes are in their growth cycle. I told him I have been having herxs monthly ever since my most current infection 10 months ago. He said this is news to him and something he is not aware of. It is called herxing when you have routine bad cycles, isn't it? and if my abx is not giving me a reaction could it be it is not strong enough? Thanks for being here for me, and all of us. Also, I did just have a total thyroidectomy because of cancer (and Hashimoto's disease) and I am on tons of calcium because my parathyroid has shut down. the side effects of the HYPO-parathyroid are very similar to some of the Lyme symptoms. very interesting to me because some of my symptoms have actually improved since my huge doses of calcium. I'm on IVs too....IV rocephin. Been on it for 5 months as of yesterday. Day 28 after the IV went in is when I "fell apart"...which is what some say can happen after the start of IV antibotics. So...give yours another week and see what happens.
I also have monthly bad times. In fact I was just circling those on my calendar today...yep, every four weeks (once it was 3 weeks)...but every four weeks I don't do so well for several days to a week. I noticed this pattern before I was on antibiotics....I believe it is the growth phase of the bacteria...and our bodies are trying to fight it down. Dr. D mentions the cyclical worsening of symptoms in www.canlyme.com/donta.html I don't think it is technically called a herx if you aren't on the antibiotics, and the bad spells happen...a herx is a reaction to the antibiotics effect of killing off the bacteria. For instance...whenever I was given a strong antibiotic I would have a bad day(s) 10 - 12 days after starting it...to me that was my herx.
Hopefully, being on antibiotics, causes the bacteria to be killed during this growth phase. (I'm in the middle of one now, and I hate it! ) But, I'm trying to tell myself that the antibiotics are working to kill the beast.
The nice thing is that for the 3 weeks prior to this downtime I'm now in, I had the best 3 weeks I've had in the last 2 years! So, I think the antibiotics are doing something anyway!

Thanks for the info friends. After reading a bit more I do need to give this some more time. Also reading about the high TSH count from Dr Wiseass, I just got over cancer surgery and I had been running at 74 TSH for over a year, it's been high. No wonder i feel so good compared to how lousy I felt! Also I am on the RAW diet. RAW fruit and vegies, smoothies, salad, juice. I have been feeling great on that as well. 1 day i was enjoying a nice glass of carrot juice, telling my hubby how good i feel...i turned around to walk to the kitchen and had to drag my IV pole with me!!! I know it's important to take a "cyst buster" while taking ABX. Flagyl, tinidazole (sp?) or Plaquenil would do the trick.
You don't want those buggers walling themselves off so they can't be killed!
Consider discussing this with your doctor.

Definetly hang in there and give this time...many months. It took me a year to start feeling better. You really have to be prepared to be in this for the long haul. I agree, you may need to add in Flagyl as time goes on. Right now you are on a good protocol though. Stick with it, and be patient, this takes TIME. Posted by aliyalex (Member # 6976) on :
