Fibrillation out of no where. I was treated for it
and sent on my way. Ever since then, I have had
PVC's, anxiety, floaters, visual snow, entopic
phenomenon, ringing in the ears, and
derealization/depersonalization. I was tested for
Lyme using the standard Elisa test which was
negative of course. Anyway, I never gave up and a
few weeks ago, I went to an LLMD. He sent my blood
samples to several labs including IgeneX and
MDlanbs. I tested indeterminate for Lyme from
Igenex showing some positive bands but showed very
positive for babesia from MDlabs. How reliable is
this test from MDlabs? Anyway, I started, ketek
and in two days I start Omnicef, and then in two
weeks I start the dreaded Flagyl! All of my
symptoms seem to be neurological. I never have
muscle aches or swollen joints. I have just felt
"out of it" for six years now. Anyway, I have two
questions. How reliable do you think the MDlabs
test is for Babesia, and if I have Lyme, do I have
to herx when with treatment? Thanks guys.

If you tested positive with MDLab for Babesia, I would find it reliable. As for herxing, it depends on your detox capabilities, but generally, yes, you will herx if treatment is effective.
Ketek/Omnicef/Flagyl are not the common treatments for Babesia. Is the doc treatming the Lyme first or the Babesia? Ketek has been used in combination with other items such as Mepron, but I don't see much about it solely being used for Babesia. I have seen Dr. B. indicate Flagyl may be used with Babesia but no evidence of effectiveness.

Hi Slappy, "Welcome" to Lymenet. I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful info here as I have over the past few months.
We spoke a few months ago about doctors in Northern VA and the similarity between your visual symptoms and my daughter's. I'd be interested in hearing who you are seeing if you want to send me a private message.
Ironically, since we spoke about my daughter, I have had an indeterminate IgM from Igenex (but with positive #18 and #28 bands, which both Dr. B's guidelines and the LLMD I am seeing have indicated are specific for Lyme). I also had a positive Babesia titer and a positive Bartonella PCR from MDL.
I've been on Zithromax and Mepron for about a week. (No herx, yet.) I'm going to talk to my doctor about adding Artimesinim.
BTW, although my daughter has seen some improvement in her energy level, there has been no improvement in her visual disturbances or other neurological symptoms over her four months of treatment (including 3 mo of IV abx). We're taking her to CT next week to see Dr. J and for a SPECT scan at Columbia.

Right now, he wants me to take these meds for a month and then do some more blood tests to look for any dead Lyme bacteria. You are correct, it seems like I am on only half of the drugs needed to treat Babesia. I will speak with my doctor about this on my next visit. Thanks!

Be sure to go to 1st page, medical, and print off TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS which he updates constantly.
Check off the most importnt things as there are months of reading there.
Also you could edit your long paragraph to shorten it to 6-8 lines and double space between them for us CHRONIC lymies who can't read/understand that much. We need space galore.
