I was diagnosed for Lyme in May 2005.

I started a regimen of Zithromax and Mepron in November 2005.

To date, I have not experienced any real side effects except for my MS symptoms (dxed in December 1997) being more pronounced - e.g. leg tightness, balance not so great.

Are these side effects consistent with taking the combination of Zithromax and Mepron?

How long will I need to take the Zithromax/Mepron combination before I begin to notice an improvement in my health?

I would be appreciative of any information people have. Thank you.

I am sorry you too are on the yellow brick road of mepron/zith. I just started my 3rd bottle in a row and I completed a bottle last spring. My zith is 250 BID.

I am no doc, but your symptoms sound more like a herx or a worsening of symptoms. Unfortunately the only side effect studies completed are on HIV positive patients who had so many other things going on that even the literature states that the side effects posted may not actually be due to the meds.

I dont recall muscle tightness being on the list.

I also dont have the link to that study any longer....but if you look up mepron and side effects on Google, you'd prolly find it.

Good luck and feel free to post onto Mepron Buddies Reunite! We'd love to hear from you!

This stuff is confusing to me but I thought Mepron/Zithromax was used to treat babesia and not lyme? There are just too many different abx to keep up with!

I am taking doxy for lyme and the dr. i am seeing is putting me on mepron/zithro next for babesia.

Hey! Everyone is different regarding duration of treatment. For babesia, treatment with mep/zith is usually 4-6 months at 3 -4 teaspoons daily.
It is typicaly taken along with Artemesia, annd the mepron must be taken with fatty foods to be absorbed. Do not take CQ10 while on mepron. Mepron and Zith treat babesia, and Lyme to some degree as well. [Wink]

Yes, I am taking it for Babesia.

The idea is to treat the Babesia first then pursue the Lyme.
