Hello,
Not sure I am doing this correctly, this is the first time I have attempted to post to a discussion group. I have been ill for 4 years this May. Recently, a western blot test from Igenex came back positive. I found a LLMD and he has started me on Tertracycline 1500 mg. I just finished my 5th week. During the third week I had a few hours, for a few days in a row, of feeling, well I guess - normal. At the begining of the 4th week my symptoms started back. I have been sick since.

I have three questions 1. Is there any one else out there that has come back negative at other labs on the Western Blot but positive at Igenex. 2. Does anyone else have the symptom of one red eye (it can be either the left or right but it is always one at a time. 3. How and when do I know that the abx are working? Well I guess I have 4 questions. Is anyone else taking tertacyline?

Thank You in advance for any responses.

I've had both of them red for months. Occasionally they look normal. They also are painful.

Welcome to Lymenet!
Yes, you are posting correctly, good job!
You will find lots of information here, and you can post your questions anytime, and remember so question is silly.

First, there is currently no 100% accurate test for Lyme. If your Western Blot came back positive that is a good sign, your body is mounting an immune response.

The red eye can be Lyme conjunctivitis (pink eye) I had the same thing and I needed antibiotic eye drops for it. Tobramycin and then Cipro OTIC prescription eye drops. I think you should see an opthamologist for this and have your eyes checked out.

As to when the antibiotics are working...well, each of us are different. Usually when you start on them it takes a long time to start feeling better. In the beginning, you herx, or get worse before better. It depends on how long you were sick and untreated, and if you have co-infections or not. Were you tested for co-infections? Hope so!

Is your doctor planning on adding anything else to the tetracycline? Many people are taking this yes, but it us typically Doxycycline that is used at 400-600 mg per day to treat Lyme disease, and for many months, sometimes IV.
Other antibiotics and meds are used to make your treatment more powerful.

I know this is alot to absorb in the beginning.
Attached are the Lyme Disease treatment guidelines which will probably answer many more of your questions.
Welcome, and feel free to email me anytime

best wishes! [Smile]

You will know they are working when you start herxing; feeling really crappy, etc.

Keep a day-to-day log of what symptoms start/stop and which meds you start/stop.

Tertacycline, sp, I think; you can do a search on it; found at top below POST REPLY here and show medical board. Most people note it in the subject line. Best wishes & you came to the right place for education & support.

Welcome to this 24/7 LYME support group board!

Here's TREEPATROL's and Tincup's combination newbie links.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/029917.html

Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend
several months reading all of this.

print & read Dr. Barrascono's 2005 info first; you will come back to this
often.

Extensive info in Treepatrol's newbie links about the meaning of WESTERN BLOT IGM/IGG test results from Igenex! Be sure to read or print this info IF Igenex tested you ok!

Also, see Cheryl's extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT ... wonderful! Read the area on CO-INFECTIONS! You
could have from 1-12 other illnesses that tick is carrying...lyme, malaria, etc.

If you are showing symptoms of co-infections, I would like to suggest being tested for co-infections when you have LYME western blots done. It isn't
cheap!! But if you are positive, you can treat the co-infections first, and then work on LYME symptoms.

EYE SENSITIVIES & NOIR, no infrared sunglasses info., 2-28-06 updated

YES, I have what you have! Are you on doxy too? That made my extreme eyes
200% MORE sensitive than they we were earlier.
I learned a lot about eye sensitivity/lighting on
www.marshallprotocol.com board.
Look for AUSSIE BARB'S EAST FINDER and then eyes/sunglasses, etc.
Wealth of info there.

I ordered the NOIR sunglasses. 2-26-06 corrected wrong email to:
http://www.noir-medical.com/noir_amber.htm

You will need 2% amber and 10% amber ... Style no. 901 and 910.
1-800-521-9746 TOLL- FREE

mention you have lyme and marshall protocol, they will give you 20% off!
Also they have been kind enough to replace the SCRATCHED LENSES & BROKEN BOWS! How's that for service?

I don't drive often at night, but I can wear NOIR's 901 lenses at night while
driving; it creates soft candle lights coming at me...tolerable. NOT to wear in
town with all the action of people crossing where they shouldn't be, etc.

from LOU to Betty on LONG web links and Thank You Lou!:
"If you hit the return key in the middle of a link, I don't think it will be clickable anymore. An alternative that maybe Betty should be telling people about is the tiny url website. I have it on my tool bar at the top of the page and use it for
those incredablylongwebsiteaddresses.

All you have to do is ask tiny url to produce a short version, which it will do with a unique address, which you then use instead in your post. Works just the same when clicked! Here is the website, spread the word!

http://tinyurl.com/

3-1-06, fyi, I tried dragging tinyurl to my toolbar without success, so that's why I currently have LONG addresses vs. short tiny ones! I'll keep trying.

Hi Badtick and welcome. I am also from the Boston area and am glad you started your lyme treatment.

Make sure that if your LLMD does not treat for coinfections, you look for another LLMD.This is really important.

You can PM me for more info. if you like.

Hi Badtick,

I am Rob, I live in the Boston area as well. Yes, I just purchased my 6th month supply of Tetracycline last night.....

If you have been ill for 4 yrs and now on Tetra., hold on, its going to get ugly!

Please list your Igenex results so we can see them, ok.....Most people do!

I have had some rough rides with Tetra., but I am also having some good days as well...

You need to be tested and treated for co-infects, no question about it, just get it done!

I am sending you a PM, so watch for it!

Thanks,
