Anyone take cholestyramine? My PCP wants me to take it to help with C. difficile. I've heard it can be constipating. I don't need it for it's constipating purposes...she wants to use it to absorb toxins.
Suggestions and input needed.
Thanks...Timaca

Me! I've taken Questran many times. First for Lyme toxins, then for c.difficile. For active c.difficile, when the diarrhea is really fierce, I took 4 packets per day. Its hard to space out the meds, because the Questran binds to them. if you are on oral antibiotics its really hard to space out eating and pills. I think you can take 2 packs/2x a day of you can tolerate it. It is constipating thats for sure! C. diff is so evil, its a match for the spirochetes I tell you!

I was on it to bind the lyme neurotoxins, however, had significant problems with constipation. It has more staying power than gorilla glue. For me, defeated the purpose of binding toxins, if I couldn't expel them. I am still in the process of trying different protocols and means to address the neurotoxins to see what holds the best solution for me.
I have heard that other people have had better results with the product. I would like to see if other board members had less constipation effects if water was increased or prune juice added, or if there were any " tricks" I might have missed on to solve this problem. --------------------------------------------------

I had it compounded with Magnesium & Metemucil and it made a big difference. Didn't help the fog, though. Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

My body couldn't handle that stuff either, but it may have been because of my bad gallbladder.

Wildcondor~ 4 packets a DAY?! I'm starting out with 1/4 teaspoon each day! Doesn't taste too bad though!
I did go buy a big bag of prunes today at Sam's Club. And some Activa Yogurt. I figured, what the heck...gotta try to keep things moving!
Oh, I also bought more Charmin toilet paper. 30 rolls to be exact.

I've had very good results with cholestyramine. Vitamin C and magnesium can be helpful in dealing with the constipation issues.
Also, do a search on CSM, cholestyramine, or Questran. there has been a lot of discussion lately.

timaca....you might as well toss the toilet paper and buy a corkscrew.

Giving to my son 2scoops 2x day....It helped tremendously with his aggressive behaviors and not being able to release toxins...I also gave him Magnesium Citrate for constipation and he has always had a problem with this anyway.....No problem with CSM after starting the Magnesium Citrate...

I found the cholestyramine has made a tremendous difference with herxing: particularly neuro herxing. It does really "stop up your system," but I found it helped a lot to take extra magnesium, and Milk of Magnesia occasionally. I also took 4 packets a day, but took breaks when things really got blocked.
Good luck!

I am gonna be takin CSM whenever it comes via the mail order pharmacy. I will be slowly working my way up to 3 packets a day. It is gonna be a real struggle to find times to fit everything in. We made a schedule and I have to wake up in the middle of the night to take my probiotics. It is the ONLY time to get them in.
I will be taking: CSM/mepron/zith/plaquenil/artemisinin
I already have a form of motility disorder that is caused from endometriosis. This will make the constipation issue even more STICKY! I already take psyllium daily so that wont be making things run any more smoothly. But I intend to up the mag and cross my fingers!
Which type of vit c is most diahreal? IS that a word?
He said that he thought the success rate was more around 60%. I think that is worth a shot then for me!

You can also get sorbitol from the pharmacy for the dynamite blasting. No script, just ask the pharmacist for a bottle of it.
It can cause bloating and possibly affect yeast though.
