3,000 mg/day in 3 doses. My doc is going to also start me on probenecid.

Should I be taking *another* abx along with the amox? Does amox work in the fluid compartment or tissue compartment?

Is that 3000 mg EACH dose, or all day?

Its a good start. Amoxy did me WONDERS, cleared up alot of my neuro symptoms.

It was the best abx for me.

Hi Erin,

My first protocol was Amoxy with Biaxin.
I stayed on that for about 4 months and then upped the dose by 3 times for another 3 months.

I made some gains at first, but it soon became evident that I was slipping.

(I later found out that I was dealing with unadressed co-infections.)

I am not familiar with probenecid, so can't speak to that.

My best,
Melanie

Considering you are breastfeeding it is a good

start. They may add Zithromax later. Probencid

helps you to utilize more of the Amoxicillian.

Oh My!

I DO hope that you are working closely with a ped LLMD? And if so, why are you asking OUR advice?

NOT trying to be rude...just very concerned.

3,000mg a day, divided into 3 doses. Dr. B says doses up to 6 grams may be needed. Is Biaxin azithromycin or clarithromycin?

clarithromycin

How did breast feeding get into THIS thread?

I don't see where the OP said anything about that.

It is MY understanding that we should stay FAR AWAY from breast feeding IF we have Lyme disease, correct?

Erin,

A lot of LLMD's like to start slow. Give one abx, see how you react, then add another. I started on very low doses of penicillin, because I had hives years ago and we feared I was allergic.

But, I did stop all abx but the same dose of amoxy you are on for a few months because of gastro problems. We started thinking the Lyme was gone and that it came roaring back. My LLMD referred to that time on just amoxy as "stopping Lyme treatment." So I don't think the amoxy alone is enough for Lyme. Of course, if you are breastfeeding, there are other issues to consider.

If you are breastfeeding, then I know Dr. B is now working with treating patients during pregnancy and breastfeeding. You may want to see if there is some way to get a consult with him or see if your LLMD has spoken with him.

Dr. B spoke about it at the first Hope to Heal Lyme conference, which was in 2005. You might be able to get a tape or transcript from their website.
