I just need to vent here......I cannot believe what happened. About 9 months ago, I asked my new PCP to do a WB test for me because I was still suspicious of Lyme after my old doc got a negative ELISA.
He said we would do the WB which is much more accurate. The next week he told me everything was negative and I said OK....
This was nine months ago......
I have been seeing another doc over the past month and I am awaiting my ig enex results, but yesterday I had to go back to my pcp to get something to help me sleep.....Had not slept in 3 days!!!!!
Was going crazy with heart palps and all kinds of things.....
Long story short, I told my pcp i was awaiting igenex, and he had not heard of them. He said,"Didn't we do a western blot?"
I said yes....you told me it was negative. He ruffled through my records and said...."Huh....strange" Western blot was never done!!!!!!!
Quest did a REFLEX WB, which in case you don't know, this means that they do elisa first, and ONLY if that comes up positive....they do a WB!!!!!!!!
I am so unbelievably livid right now. How much do these people need to be babysat????? All this time I am telling everyone that I tested neg. on WB from quest and I never even got one!!
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Anyway, thanks for listening. By the way, is insomnia a symptom of babs???
Thanks again guys... Kind regards and healing energies, Heidi

Sorry about the mix-up. The lesson here is to request copies of all lab tests -- even if the doc makes you pay for the copies.
Hubby has had many lab mix-ups. It is up to the patient to follow-up. Yes it is a hassle, but it is your health and your responsibility.
Too many times docs will say your lab tests are fine and in reality something may be slightly abnormal. Keep copies of everything.
I made up a chart where I tract monthly bloodwork. By looking at the trend it is easy to see when hubby's babesia is acting up -- bilirubin and LDH start increasing and sometimes RDW as well -- and also when blood ammonia is elevated -- BUN starts decreasing.
The trend is what you need to be looking at. If something is abnormal only once then that probably is a fluke or insignificant. If a value is consistently abnormal or borderline high or low then that could be an important clue.
Glad you did find a doc to order the IGeneX test. Let us know when your results come back.

something similar happend to me to. For some reason the IGG was only ran thru quest. As of today i have NEVER had an IGM WB run thru Quest. And that is where i show the most bands thru Igenex.
Its sad to say, but we have to look out for ourselves. i would suggest getting copies of all lab reports.
I have found many things that were overlooked by dr.

Hi Heidi
Most regular doctors have between 2500 and 3500 paitents-- that gives each paitent 15 minutes of ductor time total every 4 to 5 months--
Its no wonder no one gets well-
Its Greed that keeps most of us sick--
We are cattle or less--
Yes Babs can cause insominia Big Time-- hope this helps --Jay--

What if the IgeneX test is Positive. Talk about livid!

Yes Bea, you're right they just tell you the tests were fine. They make such a big deal about copying a few papers. I wanted to forget the following ever happened but here it is.
Prism, I had it happen with a pap smear 10 years ago. They told me everything was fine. I then got a call 3 or 4 months later. "There must have been a mixup when we moved our office" PS the test was abnormal and I needed a procedure done. I was just too shocked to respond. How many women ask for paperwork following a pap smear? They call you or send a lovely letter that everything is OK and we'll see you in another year. (hopefully)

What if a quest wb was positive!
Of course, they probably would just have said false positive.

I am going through the same thing..these docs are just humiliated that they know nothing about lyme and they should be.
after giving my total history to my doc, tick bite rash, symptoms, anxiety etc
he looked me straight in the eye:"do you think you are obsessed with lyme?"
I said I am telling you the COMPLETE STORY do you only want half of it?
he quickly said oh, i wasnt faulting you for explaining
yes, you were.
this is a crazy crazy disease

Thanks for cheering me up with your responses!!
MarsyNY: Poor thing!! I had abnormal pap back 1995 and had pre-cancerous cervix and had a LEEP procedure to remove cells.
I am on pins and needles everytime I get a PAP and always am so relieved to hear they are normal. I would have freaked out if that happened to me!!
I am sorry that happened....hope everything is ok with your cervix now!!
Yesterday I told the duck I may have NMH or POTS because my heart races when i stand up and i always feel like i have to sit down.
He did some preliminary test by taking BP and pulse while sitting, standing and waiting and doing them again.
He told me I was not clinically POTS...but definitely a situation to look out for. Can this be induced by BB??
Bye for now again...

Yes, indeed! I agree....ALWAYS get a copy of any tests run.
Forget Quest anyway. They are worthless for lyme testing.
