I am about to start Mepron and wondered if anyone has taken it and their experience with it??

The first time around it was very hard on me.
The second time around, I saw a lot of improvement.
It has been a year since I have been on it. At times, I wonder about going back on it again.
I have started having night sweats again which seemed to go away while on the mepron.

Yum yum, welcome to the yellow paint club! It says it's "citrus" flavored, but no self-respecting lemon would taste like THAT!
I've never reacted to antibiotics with a strong herxheimer reaction until I did the Mepron/Zithromax combo for babesia. I got kind of fluish on the 4th day, got better, then got slugged hard on the 4th week. The bed was my friend.
Stayed on until six weeks, then about 2 days after I stopped, I got MUCH better, then continued to get better from there. I've been 85% for over a year, back to a 40-hour work week, including physical work, AND back to school part time.
I went from weekly migraines and "near headache" almost daily to maybe one migraine a month, and teeth-chattering chills every evening and overnight sweats to maybe one night sweat every 3 months. And since I am in those perimenopausal years, occasional hormone swings are to be expected.
I still have some arthritis/peripheral nerve issues, and I watch my health (sleeping and eating), but it's sure nice to have a brain back. I lost all the weight I'd gained when sick (about 20 pounds).
Best wishes for you that this turns your health around.
Regards, Shaz

Yes, it was awful on my GI system, needed many painful colonics to help, but after 3.5 months, I think it may have done the trick. I certainly turned the corner after this treatment. Make sure you are taking enough of it . . . dosage is based upon weight. My correct dosage was 2.5 times higher than originally prescribed.

My original dosage was one teaspoon full twice a day. Then the doctor changed the dosaged and based it on my weight. We won't say how much that upped it! But boy did I herx on the new dosage. Make sure it is dosed based on your weight.

i was on it for about 1 year. I think it can really
help and the fact that people herx so much on it
shows actually how well it's working! Make sure to
keep it at it's proper temperature as it is vital
for potency as well as toleration... during the
summer i was to ill to put it in the fridge all
the time and ended up throwing up quite often
thinking it was just herxing... but when there is
no airconditioning and your room gets incredibly
hot...
well, you get my point.

What is the formula to determine correct dosage based on weight? Please PM or email ([email protected]) me if you prefer not to discuss this publicly.

I was on it for 7 months and just recently stopped, it seems to have done the trick on my Babs.
I hated the taste but didn't seem to have any trouble with it. My tummy (knock on wood) has been good through out 9 months of treatment (ketek, mepron, omnicef, tindamax have all been a part at some time).
I did drop weight from when I started Mepron to just now when I stopped but I don't know that it was related to it. I had gained over the years of being ill. I have also recently been much more rigid in my anti-yeast diet (not just sugar and wheat free but no fruit or vinegar) as yeast infections have been bothering me the last few months.
Mepron really helped me.

Well, I started the Mepron today. My LLMD prescribed one tsp 2x a day. Not by my weight.
I am also taking Azithromycin and in another week adding Minocyclin.
I tested positive for Babesia and Ehrlichia.
I wonder if I should mention the weight thing or trust the guidance of my LLMD?

First time around, didn't do anything except irritate my throat and stomach (yes, I did take it with a fatty food, I just had other issues that needed to be resolved). I was off the stuff for 2 months, and just recently started it again. To my dismay, I am drenched in sweat all the time, and feel like poo.
I am also on clinda, flagyl, and ketek, but I've been on those for awhile.

Dr. Burrascano's guidelines recommend adding artemisinin to the mix for babesia. It packs a punch. I'd ask my doc about it, as most LLMD's will add it to babesia treatment.
Did you do a course of Doxycycline for the Ehrlichia already?
I wouldn't worry about the dose unless you're a big hulkin' guy needing more than an average dose. Your dose is what mine was.
I wish you luck and hope Mepron treats you kindly.
There's a "Mepron Buddies" thread around here somewhere that's informative, I'll see if I can find it!

'Kay. Here's a doozy of a Mepron thread. There are LOTS more. Use the search and type mepron buddies - ask it just to look in the subject line and you will be overwhelmed!!!
I have not taken Doxy yet. I was on 3 wks of Biaxin/Plaquinil.
Then my LLMD switched me to this plan. The Zith/Mepron/Minocyclin.
Thanks for the info.

About a year ago I did a course of Mepron, which ran 2 or 3 bottles in conjuction with Zithromax. I didn't notice any particular improvement or herx reaction that I can remember, except for the fact that a horrible acne-like rash flared up on my chest and back. Interestingly enough, the same thing happened when I started on my Alinia/Zithromax course a few months ago. So who knows.
Its essentially expensive yellow sludge, but it has helped quite a few people. I was IgeneX positive for babesia back when I started, and now I've had 3 Quest WA-1s come back negative (I don't know why my doc didn't go back to IgeneX for babs testing). So maybe that's something.
