Lymenet.org community, check out this article on coconut oil and the like that I found online.

Although the article does not mention Lyme specifically, the "coconut" apparently contains many properties that Lyme sufferers desire.

Read all three pages because the antiviral and bacterial discussion is spread over the three pages.

Sorry I forgot to post the link ! Here it is.

Coconut oil is great! It also has antifungal properties. I love cooking with it. Dr. Mercola swears by it -- there's tons of info over at www.mercola.com.

Hi lightwise,

I take coconut oil in pill form, about 4 pills a day, it does help me.

I use coconut oil instead of butter. It's especially good on popcorn, but I use it on veggies, gluten-free waffles (that I eat with eggs, not syrup, I just don't like gluten-free bread), and just about anything you'd put butter on.

I've even used it instead of butter in recipes and with mixes when I make brownies for my kids.

I use coconut milk in cooking and I think it flares or kills the lyme bacteria. It definately does something each time I take.

Hi Yashin

Good to hear someone other than myself is using coconut milk- I just can't stomach the oil. I know its kinda high in fat but I try to limit my intake.

Have you heard of taking coconut in any form 4 times a day?

Here is a link that a poster explains why. I wonder if I should also space out my intake?

Dana,

I tried to eat that stuff, then I tried the milk. Boy my liver or gall bladder just did not like that. Nausea within one day. I am amazed at others' constitutions !

So, I do use it sparingly for cooking, now, and it is great for stir fry chicken dishes.

Tree and bpeck, and others took lauricidin/monolaurin as a supplement, which I think is the derivative of it in pill form. Maybe if you do a search, you can find more info. I think it was being used as an antiviral.

Here is one thread:

Thanks Northstar for the link [Smile]

Interesting to hear you can't stomach the oils-thought it was just me.

Does anyone know if Larix is the same thing as lauric acid?

I ordered Larix from Ecletic Institute today to use as an anti-viral. It states about the product that it is a long branched arabinogalactan....similar to the immune modulating arabinogalactans found in echinacea.

Hi 5dana8, [Wink]

I get my coconut oil pills at Rite Aid. It says on the bottle that it is extra virgin, organic, unprocessed, unrefined and unheated. It is easier for me to take it in the pill form, but I may try to get the coconut oil in the jar to cook with it also.

And I love to make little snacks with coconut flakes, chocolate and chocolate raspberry stevia..yum.

Many thanks Beverly for sharing & that recipe sounds yummie [Smile]

Does any one notice any GI symptoms from coconut oil or milk? I saw in the movie "cast Away" with Tom Hanks he only coconuts for a while & it seemed to give him the runs.

I upped my intake on coconut milk & wonder if it is the reason I have had bad gas?

Blessings

My jar of coconut oil lists caprylic acid as part of the product. Caprylic acid is supposed to kill candida. That may be related to some of the herxing reactions some people are getting.
