Has anyone had chronic hair loss symptoms with Lyme? My son has been losing body and scalp hair for months.......otherwise symptom free for the past one and a half years. Any suggestions?

I have experienced some hair loss.
Either from the disease itself or some of the medications I have been on.

I really don't have any recommendations for you but perhaps someone else will come along soon.

I've had hair loss for a really long time. Not like balding hair loss, but just lots of strands falling out ALL day long. I don't know if it's normal, but I don't think it is. I lose a TON. But I really don't know if it has to do with my lyme or not (especially since I have no idea how long I've had it without my knowing).

"Sheddind" happening to me this last protocal...I believe it's from omincef... big time shedding.

I freaked. Today at LLMD, letting me stop omnicef, but did say he's heard it w/other lyme payients on different meds.

My prescriptions didn't say hair loss from any of them but I remember last time on omnicef I complained of "shedding".

Will see if stops.

Same thing with me. Lots of hair shedding. Very upsetting. I started noticing it about 3 months after I got very sick... it hasn't stopped and I've been on treatment for about 2 months for babesia. I have noticed though since I have been on treatment that I have had lots of re-growth... little sprouts coming back.

This happened to me when I was on IV. I think it could be from the meds, or thyroid.

I'd been to a dermatologist several times over the years for intermittent periods of excessive hair loss - more of a thinning out, than actual balding - but it was severe enough, even intermittently, for me to have gone to a dermatologist.

I was usually given a fungal shampoo which did nothing at all for my hair loss, though it did dry my hair out beyond belief.

When my symptoms became so severe, however, that my diarrhea became the 'norm' and not just periodic, the thinning of my hair increased to such an extent that it IS now noticeable.

This hair loss continues in spite of antibiotics and improvement in GI symptoms, though I at least notice some regrowth finally. My hunch is that blood flow is restricted to the hair follicles, resulting in their death. I'm sure toxicity plays a role, too.

I suspect grey hair is also caused by infection and toxicity. I had more grey hairs near my left temple when my pain was primarily left-sided.

Once symptoms moved to the right side, grey hairs began appearing on that side, too. In fact, I think I have more grey hairs on the right side now and I've been plagued with swooshing, buzzing, and ringing in my right ear.

I didn't dare mention my greying hair to my doctors though after being told my glorious mane of hair falling out was 'normal' shedding.

Hair loss before starting meds & for a while on meds, then hair stopped coming out in handfulls in the shower.

New discovery: coconut oil on hair & scalp made my hair thicker & darker: not a huge amount but enough to notice a difference. Used it on face, and eyebrows are darker & thicker. Used it on arms and I have arm hair again (don't know if that is great, but I went from femininely hairy to almost hairless on arms, hands, legs).

Coconut oil is a strong anti-fungal, I suspect it's killing stuff in your follicals and skin, good job !!

Maybe your son does have yeast from the ABX? Candida can cause hair loss.

Oh yes I had lots of hair loss before I was diagnosed.

Yes! It freaks me out in the shower. I get handfulls. [Frown]

Thankfully, I have not been able to notice a difference when I look in the mirror.

For me it always accompanies a bad herx (like now).

My LLMD had me start taking biotin (a relatively inexpensive supplement); it's really helped my hair loss.

During 3 years of antibiotics treatment, hair loss on scalp, eyebrows, legs, hands, arms, underarms. All grew back, except the underarms. This worries me. Does that mean lyme bacteria are hiding in that armpit area?
