I'm interested in the Fry Labs co-inf panel & talked to LLMD about it.
Is there any info on the web about these tests or the doc that created it?
LLMD thinks this panel might have too many positives like Bowen.
Any info I can direct my Doc to? Did anyone get any negatives on this panel? Sorry so many questions. TIA for any help

There is no information I have seen on a web site about it. My test results are on my site and the contact information for the lab is also available there. Unfortunately, I cannot post a link to it here on Lymenet.
I have not yet heard criticism about false positives there. Seems like they do find alot, but in my case for example, they did not find Babesia even though an IgeneX FISH did in the same period of time.

I had the Fry co-infection panel done.
I got all negatives except for Bartonella which came back positive.

My LLMD is the one who thought it would have been good to do. I didn't know you could get false positives. I thought if a positive was a positive, then it's definitely positive?!

I haven't checked it myself as the only test I have ever had is the ELISA, and I think that is a joke for the most part.
I have no money to test, and my duck won't give me any test. He believes I was cured in 2000 with 24 days of Cipro, and that is it, end of story. Don't matter HOW I feel. I MUST be something else, though he has no clue what it would be.
So any other test is just something I dream about.

Hi there- I'm actually not barksplinter, but his wife. But I'm in a hurry this morning and I just wanted to respond real quick to this post. Eventually I'll get registered too.
Anyway, three of us in our family did the Fry basic co-infection test because we have Lyme, my son and I came up with Babesia, which wasn't a real big surprise, but my husband's came up negative.
After my husband talked to his LLMD, she wanted to treat him for Babesia anyway, because of the very high liklihood that he has it anyway, being married to me.
Also, we met with Dr. Fry and he did explain that while looking at the smear, there is a possibility of getting a negative, simply because in that "particular" sample there was nothing to see.
So, at this point we don't know if my husband has Bab or not, but we'll see how he does on the meds.
So, what I take from it is, if you see something on the smear, it's there (babesia shows up in the RBC and easy to see with his stain) bartonella shows up as little spheres outside the RBC's. I haven't seen Ehrlichia. ) But if it's negative, you're not necessarily really negative.
Anyway, for what it's worth, that was our experience with the whole thing.

Interesting debate about sexual transmission of Babesia. My LLMD suggesets that it is very rare and I believe the number tossed out was something like 1 in 5000 cases possibly.

Can't, I seriously doubt it because I do not think they are approved/certified yet. I think they are still considered a "research" lab. That might be just exactly what he prefers, too. I haven't used them, so will welcome being corrected if that's not right!!

my doc recomended the fry labs bartonella screen. it cost $300!
he said he's seen a lot of positives with it that weren't caught with other tests.

We may have the same doc! Dr. G, maybe?
I had the Fry lab and they caught Bartonella even though we really didn't think I had it.

Which testing is most useful from Fry for a patient with Lyme and possible Bartonella or Babesia?

Hubby has BCBS insurance -- they paid most of the lab cost (reasonable and customary amount).
I agree with some previous posters -- if something shows on a bloodslide then it is a "real" positive. Antibody tests are more questionable.
A negative bloodslide could be a false negative.
Hubby had 2 bloodslides done last year several months apart. First was positive for both Babesia and Bartonella. After treatment for Babs 2nd bloodslide only showed Bart.
But 6 months later new LLMD thought hubby still had Babs. Pretty sure LLMD was right -- retreating Babs now and will retest in another month or two.

I had a negative blood slide the first time. Did six months of abx, due to symptoms, then did another blood slide. It was positive.
I go to the doctor who owns the lab. He thinks that the abx broke through the biofilm and got the bugs out of hiding.
I was only positive on band 41 of the WB.

I had no idea the blood smear may be covered by insurance. That's whole different thing now. Maybe it's worth pursuing. I have BCBS PPO insurance. I know all policies are different of course.

Fry is cheaper than Clongen, but it seems Clongen can offer more tests, although you do not get a photo. www.clongen.com I do not know if insurance covers clongen, but my insurance covered part of the Fry lab tests.

How many of you were reimbursed some portion for the Fry Blood Smear by your insurer? PLEASE be specific. I do not mean antibody tests or PCR tests. I mean just the $295 blood smear.

My insurance paid 100 percent.. BCBSAZ PPO But I will add I also have MEdicare and though my doctor opts out which results in BCBS becoming secondary and they pick up the rest of the bill..
It may have a connection. So take that into consideration but BCBSAZ does cover all my labs and also I have co pays of 35 per doctor visit and either 15 35 or 65 for meds...
It is a great Insurance for me. I am a self pay self employed do not get it through a complany.
