I used ketek several years ago before all the bad press. I di not have any trouble with it. My doc is suggesting I go back to it as it works better than Biaxin.
I am wondering if anyone around is on it and for what length of time. I am hesitant to return to it because of all the warnings now associated with it. On the other hand if it really is ok and others are using it safely and long term I would consider it.
I definitely trust my LLMD and still like to get opinions of others. No one knows everything.
Thanks

I am starting it in 2 1/2 weeks at 400mg twice daily. I will get my liver enzymes checked every 14-21 days initially.

Hi Robi
I used it for two months and was fine, but my liver enzymes did creep up. I switched because we didn't see any improvement in two months. I've read claims that enzyme levels can creep back down to normal as treatment continues.
But I've read they can keep going up as well...hence the warning. My doc says its a good drug that got a lot of bad press. Use requires routine monitoring.
I think we see the same LLMD.

I was on it for about 2 months. I believe I developed chronic pancreatitis while on Ketek, but it's something that can't be confirmed.
I stopped the Ketek when I had what seemed to be a gallbladder attack and my pancreatic enzymes were elevated. My gallbladder is fine, but I have to be careful eating fatty food now.
I can't be sure it's the Ketek. I've also wondered if it was that I ate too much fat while on the anti-yeast diet. Or maybe a combination.

Ketek was the first abx I took and it really helped. I was amazed at how quickly I was feeling better and how much of my quality of life I got back while on it.
I took it for 9 months alone and then with Mepron. I had liver tests every 2-3 weeks and my numbers never moved more than a point or 2 up and down.

I took Ketek for about 6 months with no problems. I'm not sure what exactly it added to the equation, but I tolerated it well.

My daughter took Ketek for several months. It was the first antibiotic she started when seeing the LLMD.
She didn't have any problems with it. I can't say it helped, but nothing has helped her so that isn't an issue.
Her blood tests each month were fine, no problems. She was also on Mepron during this period and one other, I can't remember! Does plaqenil sound right?
So in answer to your question, she had no known problems from Ketek, it was actually one of the meds she tolerated.
HUGS,

I took Ketek for about 4-5 months and it was the most beneficial antibiotic for me. I improved a LOT and quickly, but about 4 months in, my stomach just said 'no'. Even when I re-tried it, I would get stomach aches, horrible gas and diarrhea (but not C Diff).
At this point though, with all the bad press, I'd be too scared to try it again.
