So I finished my Mepron. I felt little to no benefit during or after. I felt worse on it, and feel like I'm still recovering from the physical stress of being on it.

I have been using artemisinin on and off during the Mepron course, and now afterwards. I pulse it.

One thing I have noticed is that when I restart the beginning of each pulse cycle, the herxes/night sweats are greatly diminished from what they used to be, adn I can handle a much greater dosage of artemisinin.....meaning (to me) the babesia is still there, just in a weakened form.

So I am questioning where I should go from here. Symptoms I still have are horrendous fatigue, and a "spacey" feeling.

I am now taking minocycline and rifampin, and I'm not herxing much, nor am I feeling those symptoms get better.

So.....do I pounce on babesia with something intense like quinine or primaquine, since my babesia is obviously now weakened and maybe those treatments won't be so bad if I do them now?

Or is the best thing, once babesia is weakened, to let your immune system put it into remission?

My opinion, as a complementary medicine user - Help your immune system target the remainders by using a homeopathic preparation that includes Babesia treatment, such as Borrelia Series Remedy from Deseret Biologicals.

well personally i would not listen to a test over my symptoms (or myllmd)

so what does your symptoms and your dr say...

It is a little easier for me to sort out though because i just have lyme/babs...u have bart too right? (my memory could be wrong .. it is alot [bonk] )

I herx a long time when really hitting babs (like months sometimes [Eek!] )

so do you think maybe you feel better off the mepron because the herx stopped?

- Just a thought.

How long were you on the mepron?

If i actually thought i got my babesia into a weakend state, i dont think i would want to stop treating it until it was quiet.. completely beaten down.. but that is just my opinion.

I just dont trust my immune system. Its tired. and it also has lyme to contend with... but thats just my opinion of my circumstance from my expereinces.

If you and your dr think that mepron isnt the answer what about malarone? I know it is very simular but maybe one would work better than the other? I dunno.

Some of the side effects for some of the other prescriptions like larium scare me...but that is just me...maybe at another point i would think the risk was worth it.

I hope you and your dr can come up with a plan that gets the babs completely quiet.

5 months on the Mepron....didn't really herx, nor did I feel much better......it was more like an awkward toxic feeling....

I don't "know" the babesia levels are low because I didn't re-measure them, but I am just concluding that based on my diminished response to artemisinin, as I pulse it. It just seems like the level is getting lower.

I have been thinking about it a lot, and I'm not sure if I trust my immune system either. I do/did have bartonella hensalae, so who knows if that is still around? I'm pretty sure Lyme is still in the picture. If I didn't have Lyme, I could actually trust my body to keep the babesia down.

Hope that answered all your questions! My worst symptom right now is fatigue, so who knows what that means...........but I think I am leaning towards looking into new answers for the babesia, probably in the realm of quinine-type drugs. (eek!)
